Cool Careers for Girls in Air and Spaceis one of the newest books in a series of books for middle school aged girls. The Cool Careers for Girls Series feature more than 100 women in 10 career fields. In easy to read profiles illustrated with pictorial representations of a career path, women talk about what they do on their jobs, why they love what they do, what jobs they had before, and what they did to prepare for the career they have now.
Girls' Incorporated: Operation SMARTOperation SMART is a program established by Girls Inc. in 1985 to encourage girls to persist in math and science--and stay on the track towards good jobs and satisfying lives. Women's Action AllianceThe Women's Action Alliance is a national organization working through community based organizations that has an ongoing committment to gender equity in education. The Women's Action Alliance attempts to provide resources that work to increase girls interest in math and science. Solving Problems for Access to Careers in Engineering and Science (SPACES), Lawrence Hall of Science, University of California, BerkeleySPACES has developed activities for students that are intended to provide career awareness and certain mathematical skills that are important to problem solving. The Math/Science NetworkThe Math/Science Network is a non-profit membership organization of educators, scientists, mathematicians, parents, community leaders, and government and corporate representatives whose mission is to promote the continuing development in mathematics and science of all people, with the particular emphasis on the needs of women and girls. The major goal of this organization is to increase the participation, retention, and advancement of girls and women in mathematics, science, and technology. The Math/Science Network is the founding organization and national coordinators for Expanding Your Horizons in Science and Mathematics Conferences (EYH) for girls in middle and high school.
