Astroventure is an educational, interactive, multimedia Web environment highlighting NASA careers and astrobiology research in the areas of Astronomy, Geology, Biology and Atmospheric Sciences. Students in grades 5-8 are transported to the future where they role play NASA occupations and use scientific inquiry, as they search for and build a planet with the necessary characteristics for human habitation. Supporting activities include chats and Webcasts with NASA experts, online collaborations, classroom lessons, student publishing area and career fact sheets .

Historical Milestones

The contribution of women to the mission of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration dates back to NASA's predecessor, the National Advisory Committee for Aeronautics (NACA). The contribution of women to flight and aeronautics dates back almost to the first successful powered flight on December 17, 1903. This is a list of the first accomplishments of the women involved in these milestones.

Women's Contributions To NASA's Microgravity Research Program

This site features women who are making history with their contributions to NASA's Microgravity Research Program, managed at the Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, Ala. Women with diverse expertise, from all parts of the United States and abroad, are profiled on the site. Women profiled on the Web site play many roles in microgravity research. They range from astronauts who design experiments and conduct them in space -- to scientists who have made ground-breaking discoveries -- to engineers who are designing major facilities for the International Space Station, the first permanent, international space laboratory.

Women in Science

Created by three students for the ThinkQuest International contest this site includes information on biology, chemistry, physics, medicine and earth and space featuring women past and present.

Scientific American

Scientific American: Explorations focuses on women in science - a status report; a conference celebrating the advances of the past 25 years and examines why disparities still persist between genders in the science field. Dr. Susan Love, one of NASA's Women of the World is highlighted as one of three leading scientists who describe the challenges and rewards of their careers.

Center for Women and Information Technology

This site houses the most extensive online collection of news articles concerning women and IT; a large bibliography of books about women and information technology that includes links to reviews, interviews, web sites, etc; links to women-related web sites focusing on Science/Technology, on Internet Information, and on resources for girls; information about women-related email lists in Science/Technology; announcements of conferences and calls for papers; and a vast collection of web-based syllabi for women- and gender-related courses, including courses focusing on women and science/technology and more.

Women's Connection Online has a vast list of articles on gender equity issues and research and Internet resources on gender equity.

The Revolutionaries

The Revolutionaries is presented by The Tech Museum and presents a fresh look at the innovative Silicon Valley luminaries who have had significant influence on technology and scientific discovery. This exhibit is a collaboration with The San Jose Mercury News, the nation's leading newspaper in science and technology reporting. Included are a series of interviews with Silicon Valley's top technology and science pioneers. Particular emphasis is on the innovators' early interest in and entry into technology, how they might inspire young people to do the same, and their visions for the future. In each interview, a student reporter participated to add perspective and represent the interests and inquiring minds of young women and men.

The Ada Project (TAP) at Mills College

The Ada Project (TAP), originally located at Yale, is a WWW site designed to serve as a clearinghouse for information and resources relating to women in computing. The WWW is growing at incredible speed, and is already host to a wealth of scattered information on women in computing. The goal of TAP is to provide a central location through which these resources can be "tapped." TAP includes information on conferences, projects, discussion groups and organizations, fellowships and grants, notable women in Computer Science, and other electronically accessible information sites. TAP also maintains a substantive bibliography of references.

Women & Social Movements in the United States, 1830-1930

Introduces students to primary documents related to women & social movements in the U.S. between 1830 & 1930, including letters & newspapers articles on the role of African American women in the passage of the woman suffrage amendment.

Grace Hopper's Celebration of Women in Computing

The Grace Hopper Celebration of Women conference was held June, 1994. This conference featured talks by many of the most successful women in the computing field as well as panels, workshops and birds-of-a-feather sessions. Check out their site for more information.
