A Day in the Life of Dora Lopez

August 29, 1995

This entry was created under the previous format and will be updated soon to reflect the other "Day in the Life" entries. This entry reflects a glimpse of Dora's daily work.

During the year I try to contribute a bit of my time to community outreach. I believe it is important not to forget where you come from. So during the school year I volunteer, among others, to do a Rocket Club session every Friday, at Ronald McNair in East Palo Alto. This summer I put together a Rocket Club Homepage on the Web. It was really exciting to talk about everything we do there and cut and paste photos of all our club members.

Lately it seems that I have been working longer hours, getting documents and other things ready for the new year. It is the end of the year for us here at NASA, which means there will be new projects coming up soon for the upcoming year.

A new project that I will soon start working on is the NASA's Earth Observing System (EOS). EOS deals with understanding the Earth as a system. This project will provide a major global observing system to provide insights into natural processes that govern our Earth and into possible changes that may occur in the atmosphere, on the land and in the oceans as a result of human activities. The first satellite is scheduled for launch in 1998. It will observe the Earth's surface, clouds, aerosols, and radiation balance. There will be a minimum of 15 years of continious Earth observation.
