I am an Ops Lead for a new "Consultant Group" of NASA called the Houston
Support Group for the International Space Station operations. I work in
the Russian Mission Control Center in Moscow. Our duties are to facilitate
communications and data exchange between the Russian Flight Control Team
and the U.S. Flight Control Team in Houston. I have been working in this
position with Johnson Space Center since July, 1998.
I graduated from Auburn University in 1984 with a B.S. in Industrial Engineering. I began work at Marshall Space Flight Center in January 1985. I worked at MSFC 10 years as a Crew Training Manager and Payload Operations Controller. MSFC then sent me to NASA Headquarters in Washington D.C. in January of 1995 to work as a technical assistant to the Space Station Program Manager and the International Space Station Chief Scientist. After a year at headquarters, I was sent to Johnson Space Center in Houston, Texas to work as an Operations Lead for the sixth increment of the joint Mir missions. The "Ops Lead" for the increments worked with the crewperson who would spend 4 months on Mir. My duties included validation of on-board procedures; preparation for training sessions; participation in crew training in both Russian and the US, and general integration and operational assistance for crew related issues. During the increment to which an Ops Lead was assigned, we were the lead for the "Consultant Group" in the Russian Mission Control Center. This group of eight U.S. flight controllers supported the crewperson on payload operations. We built the timeline of activities and exchanged information with the U.S. crewperson each day. After working the Joint Mir program, I transferred from MSFC to Johnson Space Center in July 1998. Currently I work in the Russian Mission Control Center in Moscow. Archived Chats
