JANET JARMANN
I am a Computer Systems Analyst for the Human Resources Division - I oversee the division networks, PCs, Macs, Internet server, mac server, mainframe applications, and develop information projects to support our customers. I am not a scientist or engineer, but this is still a nontraditional job - - at least it used to be. The most enjoyable aspect of my job at NASA is the freedom to learn new things, keep up with the changing technology, and work with great people In school I excelled in Fine Arts, English, and math. But while in high school I was directed away from taking math and/or science classes in favor of more liberal arts type classes. I wanted to go into advanced math and was told it was for boys only. I never pursued math in college after this. Computers are both work and hobby for me. I also enjoy cooking, gardening, movies/TV (media), traveling, visiting museums, genealogy, reading, and writing. The only obstacle I had to overcome to get where I am now was not knowing what kinds of jobs were out there - only seeing teaching or clerical work as career choices. To make things easier learn about all the different kinds of careers - - don't limit yourself to what you see around you. Travel to different places as much as you can - - see the world. If you live in the country, visit the city, or vice versa. Quot Homines, Tot Sentiiae
