Jenny Baer-Riedhart
I have worked my entire career at the NASA Dryden Flight Research Center
in Edwards, California. I started out in propulsion engineering working
on the first computer-controlled jet engine on the F-111 project. I have
worked on a number of flight test projects at NASA including a Highly Maneuverable
Aircraft Technology (HiMAT) remotely piloted aircraft, an optical air data
system on an F-104, laminar flow controls on a JetStar business jet and
F-14 fighter, a joined-wing aircraft design, and a thrust vectoring F-18
aircraft. Before becoming Deputy for the PACE Office, I was the Program
Manager for the ERAST Program which did technology flight testing for Unpiloted
Aerial Vehicles, including a solar-powered Pathfinder which set a number
of high altitude flight records.
I am a native Californian, was born in San Bernardino, and grew up in a number of towns throughout California finishing my high school education at Cabrillo High School, Vandenburg Village. I went to California Polytechnic State University/San Luis Obispo and graduated in 1974 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Aeronautical Engineering. I later obtained a Master of Arts degree in Human Resources Management from the University of Redlands in 1983. I had wanted to be an Interpreter for the United Nations while in high school, but was much more interested in math and science (very easy compared to French verbs). My Father was an engineer and I wanted to have a career that was both fun and gave me the opportunity to travel. Wanting to stay close to home, I picked the first engineering circular in the Cal Poly catalog - Aeronautical. I have enjoyed myself ever since and never looked back. Engineering is basic common sense and the willingness to turn dreams into reality - what a way to enjoy life!
