Amanda, I have never tried a criminal case, however, the knowledge of the law required is still very important. In criminal law you have a person's freedom at stake, while in personal injury, damages or money or the lack of compensation is at stake.

I work at least forty five hours per week; many weekend projects. Since I am in business with my brother, our income varies depending on the number of cases and their values. Most attorney salaries range between $35,000 to over 100,00.

St. Lucy's School. I have one daughter and she thought seriously about going to law school and still might some day. She likes to help people solve problems and mediate so I think she would make a good judge. Right now she is working in sales and marketing for an electronic company and has just turned ag 25.

St. Lucy's school. In the type of law I practice I find that my clients sometimes don't tell me the whole truth. This makes it very difficult to prepare a case properly. If I don't know what I am up against, it makes my job extremely difficult. Everything my client tells me is confidential and I do not have to reveal any infomration unless required to do so by law.

St. Lucy's School. Good question! Yes, lawyers are very expensive for the average working person. That's why in personal injury, our fees are contingent on the outcome of a case and we are not paid until the case is resolved. Otherwise, most people could not afford a lawyer to represent them. We also advance costs necessary to pursue a person's personal injury claim because they are often out of work and cannot afford to pay these costs.

Lindsey. In personal injury cases in California we have a system of comparative fault. Even if you are partially at fault, say maybe 10% for example, you can still make a claim against someone who is 90% at fault and recover 90% of the value of your case. If a person is primarily at fault and is being sued, we refer that person to a defense lawyer.

Ms. Gebhart, My parents were in the prison camp for four years and I was born during the last year. I don't think it adversely affected me personally, but my brothers had some adverse health effects. My mother was pregnant when she came out of the camp with another child which she lost due to her state of health.

Te-Anna. Cases vary depending on the complexity of the legal issues and the medical conditions of my clients. However, there are time limitations in the law and every case must be filed within one year if it is a personal injury case. Most cases last for approximately a year or two.
