Who I Am
I'm a NASA Project Manager and Project Scientist
in the Life Sciences Division at Ames Research Center. I spend most of
my working day interacting with our investigators, engineers, and flight
operations personnel about the various flight experiments that we are
developing for missions on the space shuttle or future flights on ISS.
I often interact with NASA HQ and other NASA field centers.
For the upcoming STS-93 flight, I am working with
Principal Investigator Haig Keshishian,
Ph.D on an experiment entitled Synaptogenisis in Migrogravity. It
is an designed to study the effects of microgravity and spaceflight on
the development of neural connections between specific motoneurons and
their targets in muscle fibers of Drosophila (fruitfly) embryos and larvae.
See the more about the experiment in the linked description.
Preparation for career and Influences
I've always had an interest in science. Teachers in
high school, college and, graduate school professors were always supportive
and provided challenges. I have found Albert Einstein's words, "Only the
mediocre are always are their best" particularly inspiring.
Advice to students
Always have a vision or dream of what you want and
realize that there's more than one way to achieve your goals. Take all
the science, math and computer courses you can.
Likes/Dislikes About Career
Certainly the shuttle missions are the most exciting
and rewarding part of my job. To see the shuttle lift-off with your experiments
on board is very exciting! Having to juggle a full-time career with family
obligations continues to be a challenge, but I wouldn't trade either for
the world!
Personal Information
I'm very involved with my church, I am a cub scout
leader and I'm involved with my sons activities.
