Training with Astronaut Candidates

by Lonnie Moffitt
June 30, l997

I went through the astronaut candidate ("ascan") training with the class that entered in 1990. Ascans do not become astronauts until they have completed some period of training. The current ascan class has been in training for one year and will take another year to complete its training to be eligible to be assigned to a flight. In order to help bring me up to speed, I attended all of the ascan classroom courses learning all about the different orbiter systems and other things. The astronauts are really fine people and very good to work with.
