Let's Do the Shuttle Huddle!

by Beth, grade 6
West Middle School
May 13, 1998

My name is Beth. I'm a West Middle School student. I had a great time in Florida. I guess, I'll start telling you about Kennedy Space Center. My favorite thing at Kennedy was the 3-D Imax movie. I also enjoyed seeing the Apollo 8 launch simulation. I learned that Alan Sheppard was the first American in space. He only went for 15 minutes. It was called sub orbit. It was sad to learn about the fire on Apollo 1. Gus Grissom, Edward White and Roger Chaffe were killed. We went to the moon 6 times! 2 men landed on it.

I also learned that the last man to walk on the moon was Gene Cernann. While at Kennedy we had a guide that was great to listen to. She knew very much about space. We enjoyed when she told the students to "Shuttle Huddle." She was fun. I enjoyed seeing the Horizon ride at Epcot Center. This ride had wonderful images from space. It talked lots about our future in space, undersea and using deserts. I have always thought that our future will be better because we are always learning.
