Seeing it All
We
spent all day at the John F. Kennedy Space Center. We got to see a full
size mock up of the shuttle called Explorer.
We saw SRBs or solid rocket boosters with the shuttles
external tanks attached. We saw an actual Saturn V rocket that was built
to go to the moon but was never launched. We saw Juno I and II rockets,
Redstone rockets, Saturn IB rockets and many more.

We met Astronaut Rick Searfoss and got to take our pictures with him.
We saw the movie "The Dream is Alive". It was actually
filmed by astronauts in space. It had a lot of cool pictures in it.
We saw both launch pads and both crawlers.
We
got to learn tons about the parts that make up a Saturn V rocket.
It has three main stages that take it our of earthÕs
gravity. We learned that the command module is the part that gets the
astronauts to the moon. As each stage runs out of fuel it is separated
and the next stages makes the command module go faster and faster. Once
outside of EarthÕs gravity the Command module actually costs to the
moon using the moonÕs gravity. I feel great finally understanding how
we actually got to the moon and back.
