1/6th Gravity Moon Walker Simulator

Floating in Zero G and Flying A Jet
By Justin

student in simulator

I went to Space Camp next to the Kennedy Space Center in Orlando, Florida. While I was there I got a chance to experience Zero Gravity. On the simulator that I tried I felt like I was Spiderman gliding up and down with little or no effort using only my hand to propel myself up and down. This was a very cool experience. I was amazed how far I could propel myself with so little force. Based on my experience with this simulator I can now imagine how cool it would be to wear a space suit with all of the complicated joints they have. Trying to maneuvering in a suit like that and going on an EVA (Extra Vehicular Activity or space walk) would be awesome. We were hooked up to a harness and some weights that weighed just as much as we did. The equipment we used was very similar to the stuff we use to go rock climbing at home in Colorado. In this harness you were weightless and could just float for as much as five minutes at a time. During my time in Zero-G I got to go up and down on the space structure. This was a very cool experience. I later went on the 4-G F-16 simulator and had my body thrown against the back of my seat. You could feel the pressure against all of your body. The ride swung you round and round in circles while showing flight footage giving you the actual feeling you were flying a high performance jet. I had so many cool times at space camp and this is just a short summary of my time there.
