Space Memories

interior of saturn five buildingToday we went to Kennedy Space Center. We did a lot of memorable things. Some of the things I remember are the giant Vehicle Assembly Building (VAB) and the Saturn V Rocket used during the Apollo Missions to take astronauts to the moon.

I can't believe that the Saturn V weighs 6.1 million pounds. The rocket is 363 feet long. The VAB is so tall because it was built for the purpose of putting the Saturn V together before the launch. The doors open up to just greater than the height of the Saturn V. They told us that there were only a few feet extra clearance above the top of the rocket. Then they would take the rocket to the launch pad. The sound of the launch is so loud; you must be three miles away when the rocket is launched. I also had a good time watching the Imax movie "The Dream is Alive." The astronauts made the movie themselves on the shuttle and during training sessions on Earth. The pictures from space were beautiful. I had a really good time at Kennedy Space Center and I hope I can go back again soon.
