Meet: Sabrina Kurtz, Student Ambassador

I am 16 years old and a junior at Sacred Heart Prep in Atherton, California. Outside of school, I work at Pier 1 Imports, a furniture and specialty store. I used to be very involved in horseback riding, but it has become more difficult to get time to ride. I also took many years of vocal coaching and chorus and have been in many plays and musicals. A course I take in school which I really enjoy is photography, and this has become something that I pursue out of school as well. It is a unique and fun way that I can express my artistic self.

My favorite subject in school is probably World Civilizations. Despite the fact that it is a very boring subject to be lectured on, I am fascinated with ancient cultures. I have been on high honor roll all of my years at high school and junior high. In the eighth grade, I received a community service award, which is something I also really enjoy doing. Last year, some other students and I went on a trip down to Southern California and Tijuana to learn about social problems and things we can do to help. It was probably one of the most enlightening experiences of my life. During the summer, I also involve myself in a summer camp in the Santa Cruz mountains where I stay for a few weeks and am a counselor to the kids. It has also been a unique experience for me because I have learned First Aid, CPR, basic water rescue, and camping safety. It is also a lot of fun.

I have been particularly influenced in my life by my family. Both my father and my mother have struggled to reach a comfortable lifestyle that might have seemed difficult earlier in their lives. They both have strived for success, and I hope to inherit their self-motivation skills.

I think the best part of me being a Student Ambassador for Female Frontiers is that I will finally be doing something which reflects my beliefs in equality for women. I was raised to believe that all people deserve equal opportunities in professions and other fields, and this trip gives me a chance to see the strength of women in action. I am extremely excited for the launch, whenever it may occur.
