Hello and welcome to today's Space Team Online chat with Dionne Jackson from NASA Kennedy Space Center. The Materials Science Laboratory (MSL) supports KSC, other government agencies and aerospace contractors in the development and evaluation of materials and processes associated with flight hardware and ground support equipment. Dionne is responsible for testing and identifying metal alloys that are used as flight hardware and in supporting equipment and structures.

Hi Nicole, I am an early bird. So I get to work early, around 6:00 am and go home late, 4:00 pm. So, I normally work about 45 hours during the week. Dionne

Sarah, I think that I most enjoy the people that I work with. We have such a diverse working group and often times we work together on samples that are submitted to the laboratory. Dionne

My Turkish Friend, There are so many jobs being done here at NASA to launch the space shuttle. Not only are there scientists and engineers, but there are also accountants, doctors, lawyers, public relations, video and photography people. Decide what courses you like and pursue those. Just about every profession is used at NASA. Dionne

ECE, To be hired as a professional, you do have to complete college or a university. No, you do not have to attend school in the US. As a matter of fact, one of my co-workers is Korean and he completed his undergraduate (college) in Korea. He later came to the US, earned a Ph.D. and applied for a job with NASA. At the time, he was a US citizen. Hope this helps.
