Meet: Helen Klein
Retired nurse, Marathon competitor
Who I am - words that describe me:
Disciplined, determined, dedicated. I always do my best to finish anything
I start.
My personal challenges:
I am frequently asked why do I do the difficult events at this age. My
response is, "I would rather wear out than rust out." It is great to slow
the aging process through physical exercise.
My career challenges:
I do motivational speaking to students of all levels and the most rewarding
is the response of the elementary level. This challenge is very exciting.
My career:
I am a retired nurse who directs and competes in marathons, ultramarathons,
and adventure races. I am presently coaching a marathon team in training
for diabetes.
Likes/Dislikes about career:
I like being able to inspire people to live a healthy lifestyle by example.
Influences:
My mother taught me the value of discipline. My seventh grade teacher
taught me self control. My husband Norman, he has confidence in my ability
to excel.
Future goals:
To get all members of the "marathon team in training" across the finish
line injury free, and to help them solicit funds for research for the
cure of diabetes.
My thoughts about space exploration:
I enjoy looking to the future instead of dwelling on the past.
Personal information:
I have 4 children, 9 grandchildren and 3 great-granddaughters. I do weight
training three times a week. When I have the occasion to sit, I read or
knit. I hope to remain motivational.
