Arriving at Key Largo
by Kathy Sablan
Monday, September 21, l998
I spent all day traveling from San Francisco to Key Largo. As I was
entering the grounds of the Ocean Reef Club in Key Largo.I saw several
crabs crossing the road. I had to chuckle to myself when I saw them. It
seems like they should have a sign saying "caution: crabs crossing." I
checked-in at around 6 p.m.
As I drove up to the room a bell boy drove up with a message from Bonnie
saying that the team was meeting at Fairway Lakes 54B for a Mexican dinner
at 6:30. By this time it was nearly 6:30 p.m. so I pulled out the map
provided at check-in to see where and what this place is. I didn't know
if it was a restaurant or one of the rooms that the rest of the team were
staying at. I drove to Fairway Lakes, as I approached the building the
crabs were out in droves. They were scampering around one of the doorways
and the walkway area. They looked like they were trying to get in the
door, which I guess if someone did open the door they would've been descended
upon by a bunch of crabs. I was thinking to myself...this would only happen
in Florida.
I rang the door bell several times but there was no answer. After several
more tries I figured that I missed them so I went back to my room. The
phone was ringing just as I walked in. It was a message from Bonnie that
we would meet at 7 p.m. instead of 6:30 p.m. It was nearly 7 p.m. by then
so I drove back to Fairway Lake, which turned out to be Krisstina and
KarenŐs room. This time Krisstina and Karen were home. We had a team meeting
to discuss what needed to be done the next day. Assignments and methods
of operation were discussed. We ordered dinner in and ate while we were
having our meeting. We called it a night at around 10:30p.m. I went back
to my room to unpack and get ready for the next day's schedule.
