Launch and to the Emerald Lagoon
by Linda Conrad
September 15, l998
With the Privateer boat in place at the end of the ramp,
the truck backed the Station down the ramp.
The launch churns up the water as it begins to pull in reverse.
Russ (in the water) coordinated between the launch and truck,
keeping ever in mind the end of the launching ramp!
The station is afloat, and now the boat must position itself
for towing the 27,000-pound station.
Look backwards to you? You're right,
the Privateer has maximum control pulling in reverse.
With Commander Dennis atop the station, and Russ and Joe manning
the deck, the parade proceeded slowly past mangrove forests and
exotic birds that seemed to pose atop waterway signs, just asking
to have their pictures taken.
It was dark by the time the station was maneuvered into place
beside the dock in Emerald Bay. Our first success had been achieved!
