Who I am - words that describe me:
I am aggressive, athletic, out-going, and sociable. I am very understanding and willing to accept challenges. I am open and honest.

My personal challenges:
The challenges of going through training for scuba diving and the Aviation Challenge programs at Space Camp have helped me a lot. The classroom work required for my PADI scuba certification was very challenging! The underwater training required me to overcome fear and uncertainty in using the equipment in deep water. I loved the challenge of participating in the Escape & Evade night-time activities at Aviation Challenge, which required us to navigate through the woods, paddle across a pond, and use survival tactics to avoid dangers of snakes, thorns, and skunks.

My career challenges:
Participating in these challenges have made me a better student. Summer programs of Indiana Teen Institute and Youth Leadership Camp have helped me to be more mature and accept responsibility for making the most of my education.

My career:
I am a junior in the high school department at the Indiana School for the Deaf. I am involved in the sports of basketball, volleyball, and track. I participate in the organizations of the Junior National Association of the Deaf and Student Council, as well as being the treasurer for the junior class.

Likes/Dislikes about career:
amanda under water What do I like best about the Indiana School for the Deaf? We have many opportunities to participate in wonderful and unique projects like the Challenge Project with the Scott Carpenter Station. We have wonderful teachers and an excellent sports program.

Influences:
The persons who have influenced me the most are my parents. They have taught me many things! Another person that I have a lot of respect for is Frank Turk, a vital part of the Deaf Community. He is very inspirational! I am also thankful for the things that Vali Hottle taught me at Youth Leadership Camp.

Future goals:
My future plans include being a player with the Women's NBA and becoming a physical therapist.

My thoughts about space exploration:
Space Exploration interests me because I think it would be an enriching experience to touch other worlds and experience other cultures different from what we have here on Earth.
