Who I am - words that describe me:
Kind, compassionate, adventurer, learner, sailor, pilot, psychologist

My personal challenges:
When I was an adolescent, I told people I wanted to be an airline pilot when I grew up and was told that girls just don't do things like that and it was out of the question. So, I became a private pilot in my 30's and flew "cross country" with over 800 hours. I started scuba diving and became certified in my 40's. I started sailing big sailboats in my 50's.

My career challenges:
As an applied psychologist, my greatest satisfaction is to help people to welcome and accept challenges; to learn to be optimistic and resilient; and to value health and wellness. This must be modeled as well as preached.

My career:
I am a licensed psychologist and I serve as director of the counseling and psychological services center at Ball state University. I am also a professor of psychology. I am also co-owner of a corporation that does psychological testing for the state of Indiana (for the developmentally disabled).

Likes/Dislikes about career:
I really like working with people, and I like the challenges of providing the highest possible quality of services. I also enjoy applied research and writing.

Influences:
My mother has been the most influential person in my life. She is the epitome of kindness, unselfishness and honesty. She always encouraged me to try things and to believe in myself and she is very loving.

Future goals:
I would like to ride in a fighter jet. I am a licensed private pilot but have not had the opportunity to ride in biz jets or fighters. I would also like to take an ocean navigation course and be certified on big boats. I now sail boats in the 50 feet range.

My thoughts about space exploration:
I would love to explore space, because it is "the unknown," it is "beautiful"; and it feels like a "reaching out" to other life-and maybe to God.

Personal information:
I'm an avid sailboat racer and "cruiser." I have skippered boats in the Caribbean, Florida, and the Chesapeake Bay. I also play golf and am highly interested in investments and markets. I am an only child and am single. I like travel and reading.
