photo of Fran Smith as a youn Medic Dear Senator Glenn,

Great! - It's great that you are going to go up "in space".

I am 76 years old also - and a World War II female Medic Veteran. I watched you go on the first orbit. I got my pilot's license in 1948 on the G.I. Bill. I have flown off and on since then.

Then - I decided that I wanted to learn how to fly helicopters - 3 years ago - and I passed the F.A.A. written exam and (with a waiver because I have an amputated leg) I passed the flight test.

I know that people looked at me "strangely" - ancient, female and white-haired! But I did it - and I do love "choppers".

My instructor (27 years old) was my real support. I found that I had to study a lot (privately) - flying is a whole new deal now.

But I'm writing because I'm so glad that you can go up again. Go! - Go!

I saw "Annie" with you on T.V. - and isn't she great looking!!

Regards & Respect!

Fran Smith
