Why does it take so long to get to Saturn?

ANSWER from FAQ on June 3, 1999:
The spacecraft is large enough that it cannot be launched directly with
a Titan/Centaur launch vehicle. Instead, the spacecraft is launched
inward toward Venus and has two Venus flybys, one Earth flyby, and one
Jupiter flyby en route to Saturn. Each of these flybys increase the
speed of the spacecraft through gravity assist.
