North Dakota 2008
I am a 1980 graduate of Appalachian State University. Soon after I began teaching in the fall of 1979, I was hooked on helping others learn. During the past 29 years, I have taught a variety of science and related subjects in North Carolina, Tennessee, and North Dakota. Currently, I am teaching at Tappen School, enrolment 79 K-12, in Tappen North Dakota where I teach all of the science classes and health classes for grades 7 – 12. We promote individual research within my science classes and have had students qualify to attend the International Science and Engineering Fair each of the last six years.
All of the sciences interest me, but especially chemistry and meteorology. My wife, six children and I reside on a small farm near Medina North Dakota. Our two oldest children, ages 16 and 18, along with my wife and I work with the local emergency services allowing real life application and learning experience in the science fields ranging from fire behavior and weather spotting to emergency medicine.
We all need to help children find the joy in research and to seek the knowledge needed for future generations.
