Robot Helper Design Challenge

Bellville Junior High School: Ms. Cubage's class

Name: P.E.T.

Meaning of Name: P.E.T. stands for Planetary Exploration Team.
Purpose: To be able to explore other planets, to see the planet at a human’s point of view, then to gather samples of the planet, and send them back to the space station.

Movement: Standing up-right and moving almost just like a human, can fly through space to get to what ever planet it is going to.

Power Source: Has gas to help not use other power source so that it can last longer on planet, the source that it uses while on the planet is two very powerful long lasting batteries.

Description: Is six foot tall and stands up right just like a human, it has super human strength to were he can never die unless the batteries die.

How You Will Know One P.E.T. From Another P.E.T.: Each P.E.T will be color coded in a similar color to its planet and since these are like a human each one should have its own features. Like say if one has a really big nose and another has a little nose, and one has really long fingers and another has short fingers. All these robots will have their own names. The first on will be named P.E.T. 1 and the tenth one made would be P.E.T. 10. All these robots would be able to respond to its own name no matter were a P.E.T. is not even if it is all the way on Pluto.

P.E.T. Will Respond To Every Command: P.E.T. Will be able to respond to every command no matter if it is in mid-space on the way to Pluto and the space will tell it to turn around.

What it does: he can stand any kind of extreme heat or cold without melting or freezing, it can take samples of the air and surroundings, it has a 300 horse power motor to where it can go up to 300 miles in up to five minutes, it can write down descriptions of what happened if the space station or satellite lose a signal and does not receive it back, and it will be able to fly back and forth on up to four forty gallon tanks of diesel.

What is On the Robot: There is a sort of nose on it, a mouth a lot of joints on it so that it can bend just like a human, it also has to eyes like human but they are two different kind of cameras, it also has four gas tanks that would hold diesel, and it have four very powerful batteries.

How the Nose Works and What it is for: The nose is like a human nose except when it takes its first and one of very few breaths it takes an air sample and stores in an airtight jar to were it can only be opened by a code. Every earth day it is on the planet on every twelve to twenty-four hours.

How the Mouth Works and What it is For: The mouth is how the pieces of ground, rock, and other types of materials are put into containers. It picks up the material with it hand and then shoves in its mouth along with some of the planets atmosphere then it goes into an air tight container wear there it can be only opened with a code.

How the joints work and What They Are For: The joints are so that the robot can bend down and back up with out it having any trouble at all. They are also so that they can open and close the nostrils and mouth.

How the Eyes Work and What They Are For: There are actually two eyes but they are not really eyes at all they are actually video cameras. These two cameras do two different things at the same time. The left camera shows a live video of what it is doing it can even turn the eye to were there is another whole so that it can see from the back of its head as well. What I mean by live though is that it transmits to the space station while it is recording. The right eye is actually recording to were it even records it traveling the only time it shuts off is when it is either turned off manually or all the tanks are out of gas and there is no batteries power left. The camera records everything that happens.

What the gas Tanks and Batteries Do and What They are For: The gas tanks are only for the travels to and from the space station. These would be able to hold up to a hundred gallons 400 gallons a tank. The reason why they should use diesel is because one it is for very big moving objects and it would also save a lot of money. The batteries are for the time spent on the planet. These batteries can last any were from one to two weeks each.
