Life Sciences at NASA: Introduction

NASA’s mission is to send humans back to the Moon, Mars, and Beyond! In order to do that, we need to fully understand the effects of spaceflight on humans. A trip to Mars will take at least thirty months, or two and a half years. During that time, humans will be exposed to the dangers of space travel, including a weightless environment and increased radiation. In this section you will learn about the kinds of experiments that NASA’s life scientists conduct.

  • Explain the Vision for Space Exploration
  • Identify two roles for NASA’s life sciences researchers.
  • Identify two risks for astronauts traveling in space.
  • Explain two effects of space travel on humans.
