Challenge: Design a Martian

Windsor Forest Elementary School
Team A - Mars Experiment WFES A

Characteristics of Martian plant

Our plant is a sponge that absorbs water into its pores. The chemical reaction of bioluminescence gives the plant light and makes it glow. The light melts ice from the polar regions of Mars. The hair purifies the water after the light melts the ice before it is absorbed. The seeds drop off after a leaf dies. The leaves use the light from the bioluminescence to make its own food. The neck sends the bioluminescence outward. Our plant lives in the colder regions of Mars. The hair forms a shell –like covering that emerges when it goes into a dormant stage to protect it from the UV rays and retains its moisture.

Diagram Key/Characteristics

  1. Water vapor absorbers take in the water vapor in the air that is turned into water that is stored in the water pockets/pores dump out what is not needed. Water pockets on the inside store the water.
  2. The light is created by bioluminescence to create the food for the “Mars Experiment WFES A” (name of our Martian plant). It also melts the ice around it for food.
  3. Hairs to keep it warm.
  4. Seeds to reproduce.
  5. Leaves to keep the seeds warm and to absorb the light and turn it into food.
  6. Light-shaped neck holds the light and the inner tubing to carry chemicals to power the light.
