Challenge: Design a Martian

Ms. Segerdahl's 5th Grade
Rocco, Emily, Kayla, Sebastian

Our Martian Creature, Reks

Our creature is named Reks. It is a bacterium. It eats through a screen. It sucks dirth through his or her cheeks. After it digests it, he spits out the dirt through the tube coming out of his head. Its cleat-type squares on the bottom of it help it glide through the dirt. The spikes on the front allow it to glide through Mars' hard, tough dirt. The antennae reflect ultraviolet radiation that is harmful to the Reks. Since Mars has no ozone layer, the UV rays could hurt him. That's why the antennae are white. They reflect the rays. The small black spot is Reks' eye. The pink ear-sponge is his ear. It allows him to absorb sound waves and it sends them to his brain. He lives underground so he can eat the dirt and protect himself from UV rays. Every four years a group of babies come out of it's ear-sponge. This is how Reks reproduces. Reks sits on the infants until they open their eyes. .
