Challenge: Design a Martian

Ms. Laurino's Class, Pine View Academy

The Martian we designed for the Design A Martian Challenge is a bacteria. It lives under the surface of Mars in liquid water. The bacteria looks like green glowing spaghetti with white dots. The spaghetti shape lets the bacteria bend its body in many different ways, and helps it to move through the water.

This bacteria uses a biochemical process to oxidize hydrogen to produce carbohydrates. These carbohydrates are used to make energy for the Martian.

The chemical reactions gives the bacteria the greenish glow, and it's also the source of the bacteria's energy.

We based our Martian on the beggiatoa bacteria that lives deep in the oceans of Earth.

We researched bacteria that lived in Earth‚s oceans to find an energy source for our Martian since it could not use the sun.
