Befor you begin this section, you should be able to answer the following:

1. If plants and animals are being damaged by too much ultraviolet radiation, which gas is needed high in the atmosphere to protect them?

2. What gas do we need to breathe?

Water vapor

3. What would happen if there were too much carbon dioxide in the atmosphere?
Nothing would happen.
Space radiation would bombard Earth's surface and harm life.
It would be very hot and most lift could not survive.

4. Without this important gas, our planet would be very dry and cold.
Nitrogen
