Kimberly Jenkins
Hi! I'm Kimberly Jenkins and my title is Technical Management . My area
of expertise is in strategic planning and project management. I have a B.S.
Degree in Computer Science from Southern University in Baton Rouge, LA.
I had the opportunity to work at Kennedy Space Center as a Summer Intern.
This experience inspired me to become an engineer. I've worked at NASA/Kennedy
Space Center for 13 years. I began as a Software Engineer, then became a
Payload Integration Engineer, an Electrical/Software Systems Lead, moved
into Project Management, and am now in Technical Management.
I work with the Center's managers and project managers to assist them in their processes for implementing programs and projects. I also provide recommendations and assessments when formulating, evaluating, and approving Center projects. When I began working for NASA, I attended many training classes as well as received on the job training. I also took the initiative to take additional courses that would help in my overall employee development such as professional writing and speaking courses, supervisory courses, and many leadership courses. The skills that are essential to have in my job include communication skills, project management and integration skills, and strategic, visionary thinking skills. What I like most about my job is that I get to work with many people who are doing many different kinds of projects. I'm always learning and experiencing new things. That’s what makes the job fun for me. I do think the organization is too complex. I believe that we could significantly simplify the organization structure and they way we conduct business to be able to move out quickly on new ideas and goals. I enjoy spending time with my husband and children. We're all sports fanatics and spend our leisure time in basketball, soccer, or football events. I also enjoy writing and motivational speaking. My roles models are my parents. They have taught me valuable life lessons and provided me the opportunity to obtain an education and to pursue my goals. They are my heroes. My advice to anyone interested in engineering is to get as much experience as possible in the areas that are of interest. This is the sure way to determine where you feel your "nitch" is. The most important thing to me is to enjoy whatever it is that you do in life. There are 24 hours in each day. We cannot add to it nor can we take away from it. So remember, whatever hour you’re in at this moment, IS your greatest hour and your greatest moment! Live, love, and laugh!!!
