Meet: Yuri Gawdiak

Co-Principal Investigator of the PSA
Yuri Gawdiak is a Co-Principal Investigator of the PSA and
originated its conceptual design. He is currently the program manager
for the Engineering Complex Systems program. He has had many roles in
the development of the ISS, including Network Engineer and Technical Management
Information System manager at NASA headquarters.
He was also on the Space Station Redesign Team B at NASA
Langley Research
Center as a Payload Avionics Design Architect and integrated portable
computers into the ISS baseline design.
At NASA Johnson Space Center, he worked on the development
of payload avionics and developed the Wireless Network experiment for
the ISS.
At NASA Ames Research Center, he was the PI for the Wireless
Network Experiment on STS-76/Mir 21 and performed research that led to
a wireless LAN baseline augmentation on the ISS. He also held management
roles in the Aviation Safety Program and led the development of the Surface
Movement Advisor system for airport ground traffic management in the Airspace
Systems Program.
Prior to his work at NASA, he was a Systems Analyst for
the Defense Communication Agency working on the World-wide Military Command
and Control system and the Human-Computer Interface lab manager at University
of Maryland. He has a B.S from Carnegie Mellon University in Information
Systems with a
concentration in Ergonomics.
