QUESTION: I am in the 9th grade I would like to work for the NASA team as a woman Astronaut. What kind of classes should I be taking now in high school? ANSWER from Marc Siegel on November 19, 1996: Most astronauts are either pilots from the miltary or they come from very strong science/engineering backgrounds. So you should study hard in math, science and technology. But astronauts also have to be great communicators, so English class is also important. You should know that there are lots of great jobs at NASA besides being an astronaut. You might want to look at a NASA K-12 project called "Women of NASA" which is about a lot of outstanding woman who work at NASA and how they got to this point in their careers.
