We Are Happy To Bring You
Two Exciting Events Featuring
The International Space Station:

Sixth Annual International Teleconference

Program One - "Some Assembly Required"

Thursday, February 18, 1999
9:30 am - 11:00 am Pacific
(12:30 pm - 2:00 pm Eastern)

Some Assembly Required, is a live, interactive satellite program produced by NASA specifically for middle and high school students.

This is the sixth annual International Space Station (ISS) Teleconference and features top NASA scientists, engineers, and astronauts. Since the first two modules of the space station are scheduled for assembly in space prior to this teleconference, the program promises a firsthand update about the progress of the world´s largest orbiting research facility.

Last year´s event was licensed to over 2200 international sites and viewed by approximately 12 million students. The program was also taped by many sites and aired throughout the year over local school cable channels, local government and university channels, public television stations, and NASA Select satellite. Some of the topics to be covered are:

  • astronaut training around the world
  • the basics of living and working in space
  • ISS modules and how they work
  • current research in microgravity and the benefits for life on earth

During the event the NASA experts will take phone calls and email from students. An educators´ guide including activities for use in the classroom before the teleconference will help educators prepare students for the program. In addition, post-event activities will be included to summarize and extend the learning that takes place during the live event. Student materials will include interactive activities and resources for more information about the International Space Station.

Teachers are encouraged to invite science and engineering professionals into their classrooms as part of this learning experience. National Engineering Week, a participating organization in this event, will help locate an expert in your area.

Give your students an inside look at what it takes to assemble the people, the parts and the plan for the worlds largest orbiting research facility, the International Space Station. Today, flight hardware is being manufactured in many countries around the globe and soon the elements of ISS will begin to be launched and assembled in space. The International Space Station Teleconference will give your students the tools in math and science to follow the progress of ISS!
