[ MHSHenry-Mr.Henry/MainlandHighSchool - 119 - 10:14:05 ]
Hello fellow Mainland class!

[ SecretaryRiley - 120 - 10:14:14 ]
From the Pacific Northwest to Florida, and all the states in-between, welcome. I would like to begin our conversation with a quote from Eleanor Roosevelt, whose leadership over a half century ago resulted in an international partnership that created the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. "Universal rights begin in small places, close to home - they are the world of the individual person; the neighborhood he lives in; the school or college he attends; the factory, farm or office where he works. Such are the places where every man, woman and child seeks equal justice, equal opportunity, equal dignity without discrimination. Unless these rights have meaning there, they have little meaning anywhere."

[ JOSHUA/BLACKFOOTHIGHSCHOOL-Jake/BlackfootHighSchool - 121 - 10:14:22 ]
In the next 25 years, how do you think the world will change. Do you think we will be in a state of depression again, such as in WWI, or do you think we will be flurishing throughout the world or maybe even universe?

[ BryanGrant-steve/northsidemiddleschool - 122 - 10:14:22 ]
What do you think about religion in schools.

[ Jessica-Lynn/NorthwestMiddleSchool - 0 - 10:14:26 ]
Who wrote the Universal Declaration of Human Rights?

[ Matt/BlackfootHighSchool-Jake/BlackfootHighSchool - 123 - 10:14:26 ]
Hello From Blackfoot!!

[ geoff-Patricia/NorthSideMiddleSchool - 125 - 10:15:21 ]
Is anyone from Downy,California?

[ Kari-Gery/OlympiaHighSchool - 126 - 10:15:26 ]
Olympia High School believes that liberty should be the paramount right

[ Matt/BlackfootHighSchool-Jake/BlackfootHighSchool - 127 - 10:15:48 ]
I feel that religon in schools does not belong. School is a place for learning and religon should be left out.

[ Tim-steve/northsidemiddleschool - 128 - 10:16:00 ]
Adam They Should be balanced!

[ Adam/BlackfootHighSchool-Joan/BlackfootHighSchool - 129 - 10:16:04 ]
religion in schools is a violation of human rights

[ Jake/BlackfootHighSchool-Jake/BlackfootHighSchool - 130 - 10:16:13 ]
I religion in school is cool

[ Mike/Andrew-Cheryl/MiramonteHighSchool - 0 - 10:16:19 ]
We agree that liberty should be the paramount right! It's good!

[ Leia-Patricia/NorthSideMiddleSchool - 131 - 10:16:30 ]
Are you on

[ David/NSUMiddleLab - 132 - 10:16:30 ]
Hey Jake he is a secratary not a senator

[ Matthew-Matthew/N.S.U.MiddleLab - 133 - 10:16:33 ]
Cool quote.

[ SecretaryRiley - 134 - 10:16:40 ]
I believe there is no place ;more important than our public schools for building an understanding of human rights- among students, and between teachers andstudents. When students like yourselves come together in a classroom you bring your individual backgrounds and experiences. Through the exchange of ideas, whether in history, language, science, or math, you are learning more than just what is in your books. You are learning about the strengths that come from the diversity that makes up this great country. You are learning that each person is entitled to an education, equality, and freedom, and , that we can learn from each other. You are learning the importance of human rights.

[ Kelly-Helen/RisingSunHigh - 135 - 10:16:41 ]
I hope it will be flourishing.

[ Cory-Lynn/NorthwestMiddleSchool - 136 - 10:16:44 ]
What did the Declaration say?

[ Adam/BlackfootHighSchool-Joan/BlackfootHighSchool - 137 - 10:16:44 ]
hey tim who decides on the balance

[ Matt/BlackfootHighSchool-Jake/BlackfootHighSchool - 138 - 10:17:01 ]
If you have religion in school, you have to have every sort of religion from devil worshiping to god preaching and anything else inbetween.

[ geoff-Patricia/NorthSideMiddleSchool - 139 - 10:17:10 ]
Hello!!

[ geoff-Patricia/NorthSideMiddleSchool - 140 - 10:18:10 ]
How are you?

[ Elizabeth-Traci/WashingtonInt.School - 141 - 10:18:18 ]
We agree with you, Matt.

[ JOSHUA/BLACKFOOTHIGHSCHOOL-Jake/BlackfootHighSchool - 142 - 10:18:23 ]
Secretary Riley, that is so very true. Without human rights the world would be in poverty and always in a universal war against one another. We would think that nobody is treating each other with respect or with equal rights. The Universal Declaration of Human Rights has brought the world to a one with each other.

[ Patricia-Patricia/NorthSideMiddleSchool - 143 - 10:18:48 ]
Mr. Riley we are online from North Side Middle school in Anderson

[ Brittany-Traci/WashingtonInt.School - 144 - 10:18:49 ]
Greetings from Pekin!

[ geoff-Patricia/NorthSideMiddleSchool - 145 - 10:18:59 ]
Is anyone responding?

[ SecretaryRiley - 146 - 10:19:04 ]
I'd like to ask you, what are human rights? What rights do we each deserve as humans?

[ JohnMichael-Mrs.Hanley/MainlandHighSchool - 147 - 10:19:07 ]
At Mainland,we have representatives from every major religion in the world.

[ Jessica-Lynn/NorthwestMiddleSchool - 148 - 10:19:15 ]
Why was the Declaration say?

[ Michelle-Serino/SpringbrookHS - 149 - 10:19:15 ]
While rights are something held important to such democratic countries as America and England, they are still ignored in many countries such as Haiti and Cuba, where are many are killed for their belief. Secretary, what do you suggest to change that?

[ Jake/BlackfootHighSchool-Jake/BlackfootHighSchool - 0 - 10:19:18 ]
What are we really talking about

[ Kelly-Helen/RisingSunHigh - 150 - 10:19:27 ]
Yes, but you can have one prayer to satisfy all religions.

[ Sammie-David/NSUMiddleLab - 151 - 10:19:28 ]
I think I understand the quote

[ Matt/BlackfootHighSchool-Jake/BlackfootHighSchool - 152 - 10:19:35 ]
Mr. Riley, how do you feel about the three shootings dealing with school?

[ Elizabeth-Traci/WashingtonInt.School - 153 - 10:19:40 ]
Secretary Riley, how come some kids are discriminated against at school?

[ ryan-Traci/WashingtonInt.School - 154 - 10:19:43 ]
hello from washington school

[ Adam/BlackfootHighSchool-Joan/BlackfootHighSchool - 155 - 10:19:45 ]
human rights are the basic rights of society like life liberty and the pursuit of happiness

[ Brittany-Traci/WashingtonInt.School - 156 - 10:19:46 ]
Hello Mr. Riley.

[ Kari-Gery/OlympiaHighSchool - 157 - 10:19:59 ]
Hey Jake! Are you referring to a religious curriculum or time set aside for praying every day?

[ ThedaHohenbary-Traci/WashingtonInt.School - 158 - 10:20:01 ]
Hello I am from Pekin

[ JasonMike-Jason/EastFairmontHighSchool - 159 - 10:20:14 ]
Do you think human rights discussions should be added to the already excellent curriculum in our schools?

[ Jake/BlackfootHighSchool-Jake/BlackfootHighSchool - 160 - 10:20:25 ]
Human rights are like the basic of society, like food water and life

[ MHSHenry-Mr.Henry/MainlandHighSchool - 161 - 10:20:37 ]
Rights we all deserve as humans: "Life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness." To live, have an education, be allowed to have opinions and voice them, have the means to accomplish goals, and to be treated equally regardless of race, sex, or creed.

[ Mike/Andrew-Cheryl/MiramonteHighSchool - 162 - 10:20:46 ]
Human Rights are the backbone of humanity. Without them, our world would be an unjust world, of harsh punishments and dictators.

[ MikePat-Cheryl/MiramonteHighSchool - 163 - 10:20:56 ]
Sir We believe that human rights are the rights given to a person at birth. That everyone should be treated equally and treated right and repected no matter what race you are.

[ Matt/BlackfootHighSchool-Jake/BlackfootHighSchool - 164 - 10:21:10 ]
Human Rights we feel, are that each and every human is equal and should be treated equal.

[ Leia-Patricia/NorthSideMiddleSchool - 166 - 10:21:21 ]
Why don't we treat each other with respect and dignity that is also a form of Human Rights

[ Natchitoches-Matthew/N.S.U.MiddleLab - 167 - 10:21:33 ]
I think that mandatory religion is not right. Instead, I think that it should be the choice of each and every student.

[ JOSHUA/BLACKFOOTHIGHSCHOOL-Jake/BlackfootHighSchool - 168 - 10:21:38 ]
Secretary Riley- Human rights are the basic freedom that everyone is entitled to. We all deserve the right to speech, to religion, but the most important one is the freedom to life.

[ JohnMichael-Mrs.Hanley/MainlandHighSchool - 169 - 10:21:47 ]
Human Rights are: life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. Also included is the freedom from want, freedom of privacy, speech, security of person, and to be safe.

[ Paul-Tish/RisingSunHigh - 170 - 10:21:53 ]
As humans we deserve such rights as freedom to an education, to travel, and the right to bear arms.

[ Jatt-Cheryl/MiramonteHighSchool - 171 - 10:21:54 ]
Everyone should have the right to be free, happy, and have security for their own well being as long as it doesn't infringe on the rights of others.

[ Megan-Traci/WashingtonInt.School - 172 - 10:22:02 ]
What do you think is the most important thing about human rights?

[ Elizabeth-Traci/WashingtonInt.School - 173 - 10:22:04 ]
I think that kids can pray at school privately, but not openly.

[ Peter/Lex/Andrew-Cheryl/MiramonteHighSchool - 174 - 10:22:09 ]
<b>Secretary Riley, in response to your question:</b> Human Rights are the fundamental guidelines by which all people must live their lives. Different nations have different standards of human rights, but the underlying rights, as we understand them, are life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.

[ Anna-Patricia/NorthSideMiddleSchool - 175 - 10:22:13 ]
Treating each other with respect and dignity, in the school setting, shows great maturity and is some what forgotten in this world we live in tody. I believe that it takes more than one person to emphasize these human rights.

[ Michelle-Serino/SpringbrookHS - 176 - 10:22:14 ]
Human rights are the rights that are essential to the pursuit of happiness, such as freedom of speech and religion

[ Paul-Tish/RisingSunHigh - 177 - 10:22:15 ]
As humans we deserve such rights as freedom to an education, to travel, and the right to bear arms.

[ Serino/SpringbrookHS - 178 - 10:22:31 ]
Hi my name is Ross

[ JasonMike-Jason/EastFairmontHighSchool - 179 - 10:22:39 ]
We believe that human rights are needed to keep our society growing with all of the different cultures and traditions in today's world.

[ Mike/Andrew-Cheryl/MiramonteHighSchool - 0 - 10:22:52 ]
Human rights are what separate free men(and women) from those who have lost the will to live!

[ BryanGrant-steve/northsidemiddleschool - 180 - 10:22:53 ]
how long has the decleration of human rights exsisted.

[ Adam/BlackfootHighSchool-Joan/BlackfootHighSchool - 181 - 10:23:00 ]
Jatt - who decides that your rights dont infringe on the rights of others

[ Michelle-Serino/SpringbrookHS - 0 - 10:23:03 ]
Secretary, how do you feel on the right to carry arms?

[ geoff-Patricia/NorthSideMiddleSchool - 182 - 10:23:07 ]
Everyone should be able to go to school.

[ David-David/NSUMiddleLab - 183 - 10:23:07 ]
Food, Clothing ,Shelter, a Fair Wage , and Equality.

[ Jake/BlackfootHighSchool-Jake/BlackfootHighSchool - 184 - 10:23:09 ]
Paul Tish, I want to carry guns with certain limits

[ Megan-Traci/WashingtonInt.School - 185 - 10:23:10 ]
I think that we have a right to say what we feel.

[ Warren/Hugh/ChulaVistaJrHigh-Mr.Peebles/ChulaVistaJuniorHigh - 186 - 10:23:16 ]
To live free and equal and share ideas.

[ Rhett-Helen/RisingSunHigh - 187 - 10:23:23 ]
Joshua, a declaration is merely a statement. Without action it is meaningless.

[ ThedaHohenbary-Traci/WashingtonInt.School - 188 - 10:23:32 ]
We have A right to be safe. A right to say no to drugs.

[ Willie/BlackfootHighSchool-Joan/BlackfootHighSchool - 189 - 10:23:33 ]
It is my belief that Human Rights are the freedoms given to people as Americans to choose for themselves. We each deserve this right, while abiding by the laws of the land, to make these decisions.

[ Patricia-Patricia/NorthSideMiddleSchool - 190 - 10:23:47 ]
Human rights are the rights given to every person born anyplace in the world--no matter what race, gender, or religious heritage.

[ Elizabeth-Traci/WashingtonInt.School - 191 - 10:23:57 ]
I think that all kids, no matter what age, size, race, or religion, should all have the same rights.

[ Brittany-Traci/WashingtonInt.School - 192 - 10:23:58 ]
We deserve to be happy, and to do what we want as long as it doesn't violate someone elses.

[ ryan-Traci/WashingtonInt.School - 193 - 10:24:25 ]
freedom to speek

[ Matthew-Matthew/N.S.U.MiddleLab - 194 - 10:24:28 ]
People are entitled certain rights because they are humans. All people should be treated equally.

[ jeremy-steve/northsidemiddleschool - 196 - 10:24:34 ]
What is the U.S. doing around the world to promote human rights.

[ Kelly-Helen/RisingSunHigh - 197 - 10:24:34 ]
All humans have the right to vote and all rights in the Bill of Rights.

[ geoff-Patricia/NorthSideMiddleSchool - 198 - 10:24:35 ]
What can kids do to help human rights?

[ Adam/BlackfootHighSchool-Joan/BlackfootHighSchool - 199 - 10:24:40 ]
elizabeth - what rights?

[ MikePat-Cheryl/MiramonteHighSchool - 200 - 10:24:40 ]
Human rights should be given to everyone even though it is not mentioned directly in any law.

[ Matt/BlackfootHighSchool-Jake/BlackfootHighSchool - 201 - 10:24:42 ]
Without Human rights, our society would be deprived of the moral structure that was promised in the Declaration of Independence.

[ Leia-Patricia/NorthSideMiddleSchool - 202 - 10:24:42 ]
I think Human Rights are what we have to do and also what we want to do to make things a lot better in the world and school . What can we as students who are 13 and14 do to help or get involved with human Rights

[ SecretaryRiley - 203 - 10:24:49 ]
RE: [JasonMike-Jason/EastFairmontHighSchool] Do you think human rights discussions should be added to the already excellent curriculum in our schools?
What makes human rights a difficult and sometimes controversial topic?

[ heather-Tish/RisingSunHigh - 204 - 10:25:07 ]
Some rights aren't guarenteed to everyone such as people who are under the age of 18.

[ lindsay-Tish/RisingSunHigh - 206 - 10:25:28 ]
We also deserve the rights to retain soverighty in our nation, the right to be our own person, to own property etc. although we recieve, many rights, some are denied to people for example that are underaged.

[ Michelle-Serino/SpringbrookHS - 207 - 10:25:38 ]
But at the same time Human rights are continually being ignored to achieve a political purpose, for example in AMerica, the rights of gays have always been an controversial issue. But what I can't understand, is how their rights can be ignored, simply because of the lifestyle they choose.

[ geoff-Patricia/NorthSideMiddleSchool - 210 - 10:25:54 ]
Does religion have to do with Human Rights.

[ Patricia-Patricia/NorthSideMiddleSchool - 211 - 10:25:56 ]
What can one person or amall group of students do to help in protecting and extending human rights to all?

[ David/NSUMiddleLab - 212 - 10:26:20 ]
You have a right to the pursuit of happiness. Your rights end where someone elses begin.

[ MHSHenry-Mr.Henry/MainlandHighSchool - 213 - 10:26:21 ]
Everyone has different views on different topics. People also disagree on what makes things a right and even on what specific rights should be.

[ Kelly-Helen/RisingSunHigh - 214 - 10:26:24 ]
All humans have certain rights, but there is always the case of being under age for some rights such as the right to vote.

[ Leia-Patricia/NorthSideMiddleSchool - 215 - 10:26:31 ]
We all have Human Rights and this is a good place for teens to express how we feel

[ Megan-Traci/WashingtonInt.School - 0 - 10:26:38 ]
As a human we have the right to feel safe at school and other rights.

[ Anna-Patricia/NorthSideMiddleSchool - 216 - 10:26:39 ]
I believe that human rights is the abilty to be yourself and not be threatened by what we look like, act like, or think like. I believe that we deserve the right to be ourselves. We should not be threatened by "the way of the world". As a teenager that is some what forgotten, as well as most of the teenagers in the world today, we should have the right and liberty to be the way we are and not be threatened by the way people think we should act when it comes to opinions.

[ Jake/BlackfootHighSchool-Jake/BlackfootHighSchool - 217 - 10:26:43 ]
People can't just agreee and are really stubborn, like they won't change for other people

[ Kari-Gery/OlympiaHighSchool - 218 - 10:26:43 ]
The U.N. declaration is not universal, why should our standards be applied everywhere?

[ anne-Tish/RisingSunHigh - 219 - 10:26:48 ]
Human rights are a difficult and sometimes controversial topic because everyone has their own opinions of who should be given rights and who shouldn't.

[ JasonMike-Jason/EastFairmontHighSchool - 220 - 10:26:48 ]
Human rights are a controversial topic because each person has a different opinion on how human rights should be observed.

[ Adam/BlackfootHighSchool-Joan/BlackfootHighSchool - 221 - 10:26:48 ]
jeremy - the united states is creating policies and programs to try to ensure human rights to everyone like in china they keep changing the trade policies to get them to change their human rights and then the united states publicizes the sweatshops run by nike and kathy lee gifford

[ MikePat-Cheryl/MiramonteHighSchool - 222 - 10:26:55 ]
Human rights are difficult and controversial because people all agree that human rights should be given to everyone but people don't want to sacrafice to make other people's lives happy.

[ Matt/BlackfootHighSchool-Jake/BlackfootHighSchool - 223 - 10:27:12 ]
Elizebeth, I disagree with your comment on that everyone should have the same rights, even with age. Young people, can not always choose right from wrong. Many young people do not have the knowlege of life itself, without someone guiding them.

[ SecretaryRiley - 224 - 10:27:21 ]
Think back in history. How have human rights changed over time?

[ ThedaHohenbary-Traci/WashingtonInt.School - 225 - 10:27:24 ]
megan you are very right

[ Rebecca/Alison/Reed-Cheryl/MiramonteHighSchool - 226 - 10:27:28 ]
Human rights discussions should be included because human rights are a part of everyday life, and even though people disagree, it's important to discuss them to avoid chaos.

[ Jake/BlackfootHighSchool-Jake/BlackfootHighSchool - 227 - 10:27:32 ]
I agree with Mikepat-Cheryl

[ JOSHUA/BLACKFOOTHIGHSCHOOL-Jake/BlackfootHighSchool - 228 - 10:27:40 ]
Secretary Riley- We think that human rights should be discussed in a regular school curriculum. Our backgrounds and different expierences, and ideas about life influence the way we feel, and we sometimes show it in a violent manner.

[ Adam/BlackfootHighSchool-Joan/BlackfootHighSchool - 229 - 10:27:42 ]
yes we do Secretary Riley

[ Joan/BlackfootHighSchool-Joan/BlackfootHighSchool - 230 - 10:27:47 ]
Everyone has their ideals of what human rights should be granted to people, but since not everyone can agreee, it becomes a very controversial and heated issue.

[ lindsay-Tish/RisingSunHigh - 231 - 10:27:51 ]
We also deserve the rights to retain soverighty in our nation, the right to be our own person, to own property etc. although we recieve, many rights, some are denied to people for example that are underaged.

[ Peter/Lex/Andrew-Cheryl/MiramonteHighSchool - 232 - 10:27:52 ]
Human rights are a controversial issue. While important to discussion, it must be understood that the volitivity of such a topic at the national level would be problematic. The problem lies in the fact that other countries view human rights far differently than the US does.

[ geoff-Patricia/NorthSideMiddleSchool - 233 - 10:27:57 ]
human Rights is sometimes diffiicult because people are prjudice.

[ Jake/BlackfootHighSchool-Jake/BlackfootHighSchool - 234 - 10:27:57 ]
Of course they have think back to slavery

[ anne-Tish/RisingSunHigh - 235 - 10:27:59 ]
Who has the right to give others rights?

[ Elizabeth-Traci/WashingtonInt.School - 236 - 10:28:02 ]
Adam, the right to speak what you feel, the right to feel safe at school.

[ Kelly-Helen/RisingSunHigh - 237 - 10:28:04 ]
In response to Secretary Riley, Many people have different views on things such as religion, and racial background.

[ Matthew-Matthew/N.S.U.MiddleLab - 238 - 10:28:21 ]
I think that both students and teachers deserve rights.

[ Jatt-Cheryl/MiramonteHighSchool - 239 - 10:28:27 ]
Yes. What makes human rights discussion difficult is that they are different to people that come from different backgrounds and religions. One persons rights are anothers priveleges, and vice-versa.

[ Adam/BlackfootHighSchool-Joan/BlackfootHighSchool - 240 - 10:28:31 ]
in the past 100 years women were given the right to vote and blacks were given their civil rights

Human rights have changed with every generation, starting with slavery in the time that the Constitution was created.

[ Kari-Gery/OlympiaHighSchool - 242 - 10:28:37 ]
Human right are contraversal because everyone has a different idea about what their human rights should be.

[ David/NSUMiddleLab - 243 - 10:28:41 ]
There are so many different opinions and you might hurt somebody by voicing your opinion

[ Brittany-Traci/WashingtonInt.School - 244 - 10:28:41 ]
I think we should, and study other peoples rights also.

[ ryan-Traci/WashingtonInt.School - 245 - 10:28:52 ]
yes and i think everybody has the right to learn

[ Serino/SpringbrookHS - 246 - 10:28:58 ]
true

[ Anna-Patricia/NorthSideMiddleSchool - 247 - 10:29:00 ]
People have different opinions and in that people will disagree.

[ MHSHenry-Mr.Henry/MainlandHighSchool - 248 - 10:29:05 ]
In America, all people have been given equal rights legally, although they may not necessarily be upheld socially. Rights such as the right to vote, both for women and African Americans, have both greatly enhanced this country to make it into the democratic society that it is today.

[ Leia-Patricia/NorthSideMiddleSchool - 249 - 10:29:13 ]
in the middle schools we do not discuss Human Rights I think It would be better if we did so we all could understands what it exactly means

[ Michelle-Serino/SpringbrookHS - 250 - 10:29:14 ]
Young people do need guidance, but they should have the same rights as anyone else. Many of our rights are taken away. For example, look at the curfew laws which are starting to become popular. THey force teenagers to be inside by a certain hour, which is unconstitutional

[ geoff-Patricia/NorthSideMiddleSchool - 251 - 10:29:16 ]
Human Rights have changed.

[ Rhett-Helen/RisingSunHigh - 252 - 10:29:23 ]
Secretary Riley, Children, those who are under the age of 18, are viewed as being possesions under the laws of this nation. We must first be concerned with the rights of the children in our own nation befor we begin to worry about the rest of the world's population.

[ Patricia-Patricia/NorthSideMiddleSchool - 253 - 10:29:23 ]
There needs to be a delicate balance between the rights of one as a human and the violation of another's freedoms. I think alot of times Americans take their rights for granted. Human rights is basically food, clothing, and shelter. ANything beyond that should be cherished as a blessing.

[ MikePat-Cheryl/MiramonteHighSchool - 254 - 10:29:25 ]
Yes signifacantly because in history there has been human right violations for example, the slave trade. Although there has been much work done to solve human rights problems there are still a lot of areas that need work.

[ lindsay-Tish/RisingSunHigh - 255 - 10:29:33 ]
We also deserve the rights to retain soverighty in our nation, the right to be our own person, to own property etc. although we recieve, many rights, some are denied to people for example that are underaged.

[ JOSHUA/BLACKFOOTHIGHSCHOOL-Jake/BlackfootHighSchool - 256 - 10:29:40 ]
Yes, human rights have changed in the time of history. We have watched, in the U.S., blacks, women, and minorities recieve more rights with each passing year.

[ Adam/BlackfootHighSchool-Joan/BlackfootHighSchool - 257 - 10:29:42 ]
the controversies come when one's rights interfere with another person's

[ Rebecca/Alison/Reed-Cheryl/MiramonteHighSchool - 258 - 10:29:51 ]
Slavery, gay marriages, segregation, Japanese internment, discrimination in the work force, and the glass celing are all examples of human rights injustices in the past. Most of these have been eliminated, but still some prevail.

[ JasonMike-Jason/EastFairmontHighSchool - 259 - 10:29:58 ]
One of the amendments in our Constitution was created primarily for slavery and African-American human rights.

[ Megan-Traci/WashingtonInt.School - 260 - 10:29:59 ]
Geoff-We could stand up for ourselves and tell everybody what our rights are.

[ Jatt-Cheryl/MiramonteHighSchool - 261 - 10:30:07 ]
With technology, people on the far side of the earth can see how free others are living. In the past oppressed peoples didn't even know that freedom was an attainable goal.

[ JohnMichael-Mrs.Hanley/MainlandHighSchool - 0 - 10:30:12 ]
1. Human rights are controversial because people aren't fully educated, people come froim different backgrounds, and we take human rights into a different perspective over all. 2. Minorities in America have experienced prgress over time since the 1800's with room for improvenment

[ PATRICIA-steve/northsidemiddleschool - 262 - 10:30:13 ]
Secretary Riley, what is the exact meaning of human rights?

[ Matt/BlackfootHighSchool-Jake/BlackfootHighSchool - 263 - 10:30:16 ]
Human Rights are difficult sometimes, for example dealing with trade. Our trade with China is so deep, that we can not tell them what to do socially. Sometimes money interferes with our morals

[ Matthew-Matthew/N.S.U.MiddleLab - 264 - 10:30:25 ]
We have increased human rights standards in America. We have learned and taught others that ALL people are created equall.

[ Anna-Patricia/NorthSideMiddleSchool - 265 - 10:30:32 ]
We have more freedom than we did back in history. But, we are still struggling, as a country, with the same problems as we did back in history as well.

[ David/NSUMiddleLab - 266 - 10:30:33 ]
Human rights have changed before slavery in the U.S.

[ Kari-Gery/OlympiaHighSchool - 0 - 10:30:43 ]
Basic human rights don't change over time because they are absolute. However our acceptance of them vary based on societal circumstances.

[ Jake/BlackfootHighSchool-Jake/BlackfootHighSchool - 0 - 10:30:43 ]
Secratary how do you personally feel on this issue?

[ Adam/BlackfootHighSchool-Joan/BlackfootHighSchool - 0 - 10:30:46 ]
johnmichael - we so agree

[ ThedaHohenbary-Traci/WashingtonInt.School - 0 - 10:30:49 ]
Woman did not have the right to vote. Kids could not speek in public.

[ Mike/Andrew-Cheryl/MiramonteHighSchool - 267 - 10:30:51 ]
Yes, they will insure a fair and democratic atmosphere in the class rooms. They will also make people aware of the violations of human rights in other nations; as well as our own. Human rights are unique in every culture, what is right to someone, may be quite wrong to another. Many people feel that American's are far too liberal Human Rights have changed drastically over time, for example Women and African-Americans were not given an equal opportunity for over two hundred years, in America. Even today, such programs as Aff. Action and Women's rights prevent those people from an "equal and fair" world.

[ Frances-Helen/RisingSunHigh - 268 - 10:30:52 ]
Well, in time women and slaves have gained some rights through movements and strong wills. They also gained support along the way. For example, eventually there were men who supported women's rights

[ Elizabeth-Traci/WashingtonInt.School - 0 - 10:30:59 ]
Matt, you are right.

[ ryan-Traci/WashingtonInt.School - 269 - 10:31:05 ]
well we have more rights now then we had then

[ Joan/BlackfootHighSchool-Joan/BlackfootHighSchool - 270 - 10:31:05 ]

[ Leia-Patricia/NorthSideMiddleSchool - 271 - 10:31:06 ]
We have a lot more freedom but I think that we all hold grudges on everyone that is different so in so peoples minds we are not created equal but i think we are

[ geoff-Patricia/NorthSideMiddleSchool - 272 - 10:31:14 ]
Human rights have changed drstically.

[ ross-Serino/SpringbrookHS - 273 - 10:31:15 ]

As we have advanced socially, we have begun to realize that we are all entitled to certain basic human rights.

[ JasonMike-Jason/EastFairmontHighSchool - 275 - 10:31:20 ]
Ask yourself this question: When our founding father created the Constitution were they taking into consideration human rights?

[ Warren/Hugh/ChulaVistaJrHigh-Mr.Peebles/ChulaVistaJuniorHigh - 276 - 10:31:29 ]
Yes, we should be taught human rights as part of the curriculum so that we can learn to treat people equally.

[ lindsay-Tish/RisingSunHigh - 277 - 10:31:35 ]
We also deserve the rights to retain soverighty in our nation, the right to be our own person, to own property etc. although we recieve, many rights, some are denied to people for example that are underaged.

SECRITARY RILEY What is the U.S. doing around the world to promote human rights[China]

[ Willie/BlackfootHighSchool-Joan/BlackfootHighSchool - 279 - 10:31:42 ]
With modernization and people becoming more socially active, Human rights have become more and more important to all people. This is shown through time when rights are granted to different people at different times. Like with women and blacks. People are getting rights every day.

[ SecretaryRiley - 280 - 10:31:57 ]
How does change occur in the area of human rights? Who does it and how do they do it? Where have we made improvements as you look around the world.

[ Paul-Tish/RisingSunHigh - 281 - 10:32:00 ]
Many times it is difficult to interpret what human rights are given to people because laws concerning human rights are often quite broad. Different people look at our laws in their own light.

[ Matt/BlackfootHighSchool-Jake/BlackfootHighSchool - 282 - 10:32:05 ]
Human rights have changed in the ways because women have a higher social status than before and people can't be denied anything according to age, sex, religion, and race.

[ Peter/Lex/Andrew-Cheryl/MiramonteHighSchool - 283 - 10:32:11 ]
While historically human rights have become a more important topic and greater consideration as part of our nation and foreign policy throughout the past fifty years. Looking at our own history, slavery was an agregious violation of human rights. Our foreign policy has also changed heavily towards human rights. In just the seventies you progressed from the trade and peace oriented policies of Kissenger to the foreign policy of Carter, based almost entirely on human rights. Unfortunately the results of the former were much greater than the results of the latter.

[ Adam/BlackfootHighSchool-Joan/BlackfootHighSchool - 284 - 10:32:23 ]
jason - they didnt have a reason to consider human rights because it wasnt much of a problem back then

[ Michelle-Serino/SpringbrookHS - 287 - 10:32:44 ]
Even with all the laws, there is no way, the US could ever be a completely equal country, simply because you are dealing with a diverse range of people.

[ Serino/SpringbrookHS - 288 - 10:32:44 ]
Jeff from Rising SUn High come back!

[ Kari-Gery/OlympiaHighSchool - 289 - 10:33:04 ]
It's time to take a stand. We think we should revoke MFN

[ lindsay-Tish/RisingSunHigh - 290 - 10:33:06 ]
We also deserve the rights to retain soverighty in our nation, the right to be our own person, to own property etc. although we recieve, many rights, some are denied to people for example that are underaged.

[ Rebecca/Alison/Reed-Cheryl/MiramonteHighSchool - 291 - 10:33:10 ]
Change occurs when a society advances and we realize that everyone deserves the same "unalienable rights"

[ Megan-Traci/WashingtonInt.School - 292 - 10:33:13 ]
Geoff- People might be prejudice but you could still tell them your rights and what you feel.

[ Michelle-Serino/SpringbrookHS - 293 - 10:33:15 ]
Oh yes

[ Adam/BlackfootHighSchool-Joan/BlackfootHighSchool - 294 - 10:33:26 ]
it has to be a change in the lifestyle of society through the united nations and other groups pushing for change

[ Elizabeth-Traci/WashingtonInt.School - 295 - 10:33:29 ]
I am glad that human rights have changed over time.

[ Frances-Helen/RisingSunHigh - 296 - 10:33:30 ]
Although we are given those rights can you honestly say that everyone is granted these rights. There is still discrimination in schools and in work.

[ SecretaryRiley - 298 - 10:33:36 ]
What would you like the world to look like in 25 years? How can you be a part of that change?

[ Matt/BlackfootHighSchool-Jake/BlackfootHighSchool - 299 - 10:33:54 ]
In the area of China. We brought China out of isolation, and are constantly working with them on their human rights.

[ Jake/BlackfootHighSchool-Jake/BlackfootHighSchool - 300 - 10:34:01 ]
The people change and can change the area of human rights, through govermental procedures and public opiion, everywhere

We also deserve the rights to retain soverighty in our nation, the right to be our own person, to own property etc. although we recieve, many rights, some are denied to people for example that are underaged.

[ Jatt-Cheryl/MiramonteHighSchool - 302 - 10:34:18 ]
Changes occur in human rights when people see others that are oppressed or the oppressed see others that are free. As people become more conscious of human rights there will change.

[ Rose-David/NSUMiddleLab - 303 - 10:34:27 ]
People of all races and ethnic groups have equal rights compared to the last 30 years

[ JOSHUA/BLACKFOOTHIGHSCHOOL-Jake/BlackfootHighSchool - 304 - 10:34:27 ]
Secretary Riley- Change in the area of human rights occurs when people get different ideas that are contriversial to the existing human rights ammendments.

[ geoff-Patricia/NorthSideMiddleSchool - 305 - 10:34:29 ]
We are studing the human rights right now.People sacraficed their lives to protect our human rights. Is anyone else studing the revolutionary war?

[ Michelle-Serino/SpringbrookHS - 306 - 10:34:31 ]
What do you think about cloning

[ Rebecca/Alison/Reed-Cheryl/MiramonteHighSchool - 307 - 10:34:49 ]
We have made the most improvments here in the USA because we jumped from slavery and oppresion to the land of the free and the home of the brave. A converse example is that Fidel Castro, of Cuba, is now allowing the Cubans to celebrate Christmas

[ ThedaHohenbary-Traci/WashingtonInt.School - 308 - 10:34:59 ]
I think human rights changed over the years alot.

[ MHSHenry-Mr.Henry/MainlandHighSchool - 309 - 10:35:01 ]
People like you and me express their opinions and start movements, giving people equal rights. People form groups and promote their ideas, they have wars, they sign petitions, they have demonstrations (peaceful and violent), they elect leaders to represent them.

[ Mike/Andrew-Cheryl/MiramonteHighSchool - 310 - 10:35:02 ]
The U.N. impresses Human Rights on third world countries in an attempt to help make the world a better place; however, in China, our attempts have failed. They continously abuse human rights. On the brighter side of Human Rights, America and other U.N. countries are better.

[ Leia-Patricia/NorthSideMiddleSchool - 311 - 10:35:02 ]
we in our class have been studing the American Revelusion which is fighting for human Rights But it has changed tons

Geoff-How have the human rights changed?

[ Brittany-Traci/WashingtonInt.School - 315 - 10:35:12 ]
Child labor laws have been improved but they aren't perfect

[ Anna-Patricia/NorthSideMiddleSchool - 316 - 10:35:32 ]
I think we should especially crack down on the racism that is still in our country. My family has just adopted a bi-raacial baby brother and I don't even want to think about the trials he will have to deal with.

[ Warren/Hugh/ChulaVistaJrHigh-Mr.Peebles/ChulaVistaJuniorHigh - 317 - 10:35:34 ]
In the U.S. slavery has been eliminated and respect in general has improved.

[ Jake/BlackfootHighSchool-Jake/BlackfootHighSchool - 318 - 10:35:42 ]
kari-Gery revoking MFN will cause the world economy ot crash. We rely too much on foreign trade simply to just take it all away on account of rights that are being violted everywhere

[ Peter/Lex/Andrew-Cheryl/MiramonteHighSchool - 319 - 10:35:46 ]
A healthier environment for democracy, and human welfare.

[ Adam/BlackfootHighSchool-Joan/BlackfootHighSchool - 320 - 10:35:46 ]

[ Skip-steve/northsidemiddleschool - 321 - 10:35:49 ]
Should the people of the world have the same rights.

[ Elizabeth-Traci/WashingtonInt.School - 322 - 10:35:56 ]
We have made tons of improvements by letting women vote and not making children work.

[ JasonMike-Jason/EastFairmontHighSchool - 323 - 10:35:57 ]

Hi megan and sarah

[ Jatt-Cheryl/MiramonteHighSchool - 329 - 10:36:29 ]
In terms of human rights, everyone on earth should have the same opportunity to be free. This is virtually unattainable because of the contradictory beliefs of so many groups around the world.

[ JOSHUA/BLACKFOOTHIGHSCHOOL-Jake/BlackfootHighSchool - 330 - 10:36:38 ]
Secretary Riley- We would like to see the world in 25 years all the human race content with the existing human rights that we would have established by then.

[ Michelle-Serino/SpringbrookHS - 331 - 10:36:38 ]
Less pollution and more respect for human rights, as in self respect, because if people had self respect, many youths would not now be suffering from AIDs, pregnancy, STDs, drug addictions and suicide

[ jeremy-steve/northsidemiddleschool - 332 - 10:36:42 ]
I would like the world to be like the Jetsons. I like the Jetsons, do you ?

[ lindsay-Tish/RisingSunHigh - 333 - 10:36:43 ]
More acceptance among different people, less stereotypes, more equality, less violence, college tuition cheaper

[ JASON-Jason/EastFairmontHighSchool - 334 - 10:37:00 ]
Secretary, your boss is a very fine president.

[ Leia-Patricia/NorthSideMiddleSchool - 335 - 10:37:01 ]
I wish everyone in 25 years would truly believe that we all are created equal so that there would not be racism

[ Megan-Traci/WashingtonInt.School - 336 - 10:37:01 ]
Theda- how have they changed alot?

[ Matt/BlackfootHighSchool-Jake/BlackfootHighSchool - 337 - 10:37:01 ]
I would like the world to be a peaceful place to live, however I don't believe that is possible. I would like the world to progress not only economically, but socially and morally.

[ Mike/Andrew-Cheryl/MiramonteHighSchool - 338 - 10:37:03 ]
I'd like to see less of a cultural influence on human rights, and more of an universal statute of laws which incorporate life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.

[ Brittany-Traci/WashingtonInt.School - 339 - 10:37:07 ]
Geoff, Human rights have changed to let people of all races and religons do the same things.

[ Rebecca/Alison/Reed-Cheryl/MiramonteHighSchool - 340 - 10:37:20 ]
I would like the destruction of the "terrible T's" Tibet, Tianaman Square, and Taiwan. Although this is only a few examples, there are other oppresions that can be stopped.

[ Jeff-Helen/RisingSunHigh - 341 - 10:37:20 ]
We need to worry about human rights here in America more than human rights in the rest of the world. We should stop being the "big brother" to other ns.

[ MikePat-Cheryl/MiramonteHighSchool - 343 - 10:37:26 ]
In 25 year I don't think it is going to be a nice place but we would like it ti be peaceful although the likelyhood of that happening would be very slim.

[ MHSHenry-Mr.Henry/MainlandHighSchool - 344 - 10:37:27 ]
In 25 years, we would like to see the world led by leaders whose goals are to accomplish things for purposes greater than just themselves. By doing that, human rights are ensured simply because no one has power enough and motivation to take them away. Instead of countries trying to be better than each other, uniting and having all the countries of the world act together, like in Independence Day.

[ Jeff-Helen/RisingSunHigh - 345 - 10:37:32 ]
We need to worry about human rights here in America more than human rights in the rest of the world. We should stop being the "big brother" to other ns.

[ Willie/BlackfootHighSchool-Joan/BlackfootHighSchool - 346 - 10:37:48 ]
Changes in Human Rights occur when one person speaks up and forms a group and then the group gets things changed. Then the group gets this right granted and then a whole bunch of these groups form and more and more rights are granted.

[ Rebecca/Alison/Reed-Cheryl/MiramonteHighSchool - 347 - 10:38:03 ]
That California is 49th in education and that isn't too good. We need more money, to tell the truth.

[ Elizabeth-Traci/WashingtonInt.School - 348 - 10:38:13 ]
I would like the world to not have so many so homeless people walking the streets and I would like to see the ozone layer fixed.

[ Jake/BlackfootHighSchool-Jake/BlackfootHighSchool - 349 - 10:38:14 ]
Sececratary Riley we need to decrease affirmative action. Through education people can become aware and abide by human rights. The best thing to do is simply eductae people about what human rights are so there is a greater awareness on the issue

[ Adam/BlackfootHighSchool-Joan/BlackfootHighSchool - 350 - 10:38:15 ]
Secretary Riley - democracy wont work without an educated society and democracy encompasses the most for human rights

[ Megan-Traci/WashingtonInt.School - 351 - 10:38:18 ]
Adam- such as...

[ Matt/BlackfootHighSchool-Jake/BlackfootHighSchool - 352 - 10:38:26 ]
I would tell you that we are progressing slowly, but we need to concentrate on academics, rather than athletics.

[ David/NSUMiddleLab - 353 - 10:38:34 ]
Maybe we can help third world countries develop with equal human rights

[ Michelle-Serino/SpringbrookHS - 354 - 10:38:40 ]
To Jason:If you want the world to last that long, first you have to look if its worth for all those suffering in 3rd world countries, from AIDS, castration in Africa, politics and in your self, don't forget hypocrisy and Saddam Hussein

[ Mike/Andrew-Cheryl/MiramonteHighSchool - 355 - 10:38:41 ]
I would explain that Amerca is easily up to par, but that we must use our "world police" powers to influence OTHER countries on human rights.

[ Serino/SpringbrookHS - 356 - 10:38:42 ]
Jeff I totally agree with you

[ anne-Tish/RisingSunHigh - 357 - 10:38:42 ]
In 25 years I would hope that the world was not a cloud of smoke. Some states are starting to help auto pollutions, such as California with their emmissions tests. I could directly help by joining carpools, working for Green Peace, or petions to our government.

[ ThedaHohenbary-Traci/WashingtonInt.School - 0 - 10:38:44 ]
Adam what do you mean about the lifestyles

[ Frances-Helen/RisingSunHigh - 358 - 10:38:48 ]
We can have laws made to prevent racism, but you can't change the way a person may think. No matter how wrong it may be.

[ ryan-Traci/WashingtonInt.School - 360 - 10:39:02 ]
to speek freely and respect others

[ MHSHenry-Mr.Henry/MainlandHighSchool - 361 - 10:39:25 ]
We think school is a place to learn about human rights, not to have schools as a battle ground for human/civil rights arguments. We would give you advice to ensure every American an equal right to education, regardless of race, religion, sex, or socio-economic status.

[ JasonMike-Jason/EastFairmontHighSchool - 362 - 10:39:25 ]
This has been fun lets do it again. Except on another topic

[ MikePat-Cheryl/MiramonteHighSchool - 363 - 10:39:31 ]
I think that it is important that we should help the people in our country before we go out and try to help other countries. We also need to help other contries but we need to focus more of our funds towards our own country instead of others.

[ lindsay-Tish/RisingSunHigh - 364 - 10:39:32 ]
More acceptance among different people, less stereotypes, more equality, less violence, college tuition cheaper

[ Matt/BlackfootHighSchool-Jake/BlackfootHighSchool - 365 - 10:39:43 ]
I also feel that teenagers need to be respected more. We are the future of the world, and it feels like we are deprived of so many rights, because of our age.

[ Anna-Patricia/NorthSideMiddleSchool - 0 - 10:39:51 ]
I would like our world to be better in the since that we don't have to walk down the street and worry about what might happen to us. I would also like to have better equality between people. I can be a part of that change by volunteering my time to some organizations that deal with the everyday changes and problems in our everyday world.

[ Elizabeth-Traci/WashingtonInt.School - 366 - 10:39:52 ]
I would tell you about our R.E.S.P.E.C.T. code and what each letter standed for.

[ Adam/BlackfootHighSchool-Joan/BlackfootHighSchool - 367 - 10:39:59 ]
theda - society itself sets the standards for what is ok and what isnt things have changed from 50 years ago when it was bad to say sex

[ Kari-Gery/OlympiaHighSchool - 368 - 10:40:04 ]
Jake-China is one of our main economic suppliers but if you are content to complain and continue to trade then you are sanctioning these violations.

[ Brittany-Traci/WashingtonInt.School - 369 - 10:40:05 ]
Secretary Riley, If you were in our classroom I would ask you about our choice in school food. I want to know if we could change some of the meals or move them to different days.

[ Rebecca/Alison/Reed-Cheryl/MiramonteHighSchool - 370 - 10:40:22 ]
We should include a human rights course as part of a regular curriculum. Also, it shouldn't matter where you live, good education should not be limited to upper class societies.

[ SecretaryRiley - 371 - 10:40:25 ]
Several of you have asked my personal views on human rights. Human rights are American values which I would like to see in all countries. It involves equal opportunities; justice; freedom of speech, assembly and religion; and fairness to all. Human rights today must also include the opportunity for a quality education.

[ JohnMichael-Mrs.Hanley/MainlandHighSchool - 372 - 10:40:35 ]
In a world where peace and acceptance is universal for all human, where wars and revolutions are striken from the dictionary, and where strife for order and civility are rare. Where the whole world is becoming of Daytona Beach.

david- other countries have different perceptions and traditions on human rights that's why we sould not take it upon ourselves to change everyone else

[ heather-Tish/RisingSunHigh - 374 - 10:40:35 ]
In education I think there needs to be more strict concequences for peoples misbehavior in the classroom. Also college touition needs to be lowered so that everyone can have the equil opertunity

[ Matthew/N.S.U.MiddleLab - 375 - 10:40:37 ]
We would tell you that it is not taught in middle lab schools, and that it should be taught i earlier.

[ Megan-Traci/WashingtonInt.School - 376 - 10:40:40 ]
Riley- I would like the world to have no pollution, homeless people should have homes, No prejudice people.

[ David/NSUMiddleLab - 377 - 10:40:42 ]
You have equal rights until you step on someone elses rights

[ Leia-Patricia/NorthSideMiddleSchool - 378 - 10:40:43 ]
That sometimes it is unfair in many ways and that I think we could stand to learn more in school so everyone could understand what it truly means

[ Leia-Patricia/NorthSideMiddleSchool - 379 - 10:40:44 ]

[ Jeff-Helen/RisingSunHigh - 382 - 10:40:47 ]
Education should reflect the human rights that we are all supposed to have. A regulated dress code, for example, is a violation of our right to free expression. THerefore, the education system should not restrict any rights whatsoever.

[ Peter/Lex/Andrew-Cheryl/MiramonteHighSchool - 383 - 10:40:51 ]
That among other things, human rights are about the most important issues we can discuss. It is not so much a measure of education, however, but moreover foreign policy. With the recent clean air acts at the world summit, it becomes apparent that the countries of the world cannot continue as separate entities on this issue. Either the entire world needs to come together as one force, or no one does. No inbewtween. because truly "A threat to justice anywhere is a threat of justice everywhere."

[ Michelle-Serino/SpringbrookHS - 0 - 10:40:51 ]
Human rights, have always struck controversy for really stupid reasons. If we want society to last,we have to protect our culture, our lives and respect others and the earth

[ ryan-Traci/WashingtonInt.School - 384 - 10:40:59 ]
things like what brittany

[ Adam/BlackfootHighSchool-Joan/BlackfootHighSchool - 0 - 10:41:02 ]
i have 2 questions for everyone: 1. should a woman have the right to an abortion and 2. what human rights, if any, should the unborn baby have

[ Patricia-Patricia/NorthSideMiddleSchool - 385 - 10:41:03 ]
The world would be more balanced in that there wouldn't be any threats concerning the building balistic missiles. Or hate crimes over the net. It would all be controlled.

[ lindsay-Tish/RisingSunHigh - 386 - 10:41:17 ]
More acceptance among different people, less stereotypes, more equality, less violence, college tuition cheaper

[ Anna-Patricia/NorthSideMiddleSchool - 387 - 10:41:18 ]
To:Mike-Who is the "world police" in your opinion?

[ Serino/SpringbrookHS - 389 - 10:41:19 ]
capital punishment should be more widely used

[ Matt/BlackfootHighSchool-Jake/BlackfootHighSchool - 390 - 10:41:25 ]
Mr. Riley, How do you feel about the national drinking age. I disagree totally with this, you can fight and die for your country at 18, but can not drink untill 21. Also, we can vote at 18 to decide who makes these laws.

[ Paul-Tish/RisingSunHigh - 391 - 10:41:31 ]
Elizabeth, what is your school's R.E.S.P.E.C.T. code?

[ Matthew/N.S.U.MiddleLab - 392 - 10:42:03 ]
We feel that human rights aren't accepted everyyhere.

[ Mike/Andrew-Cheryl/MiramonteHighSchool - 393 - 10:42:06 ]
What do you plan to do about human rights in the classroom?

[ Jatt-Cheryl/MiramonteHighSchool - 394 - 10:42:16 ]
The only place that education conflicts with human rights is in the area of censorship. Book banning, internet censorship, and newspaper censorship are all infringements of human rights that are overlooked in schools all over the nation.

[ Jeff-Helen/RisingSunHigh - 395 - 10:42:19 ]
Secretary Riley, do you feel that all people are equal, and if so, in whAt way?

[ Rebecca/Alison/Reed-Cheryl/MiramonteHighSchool - 396 - 10:42:23 ]
I believe that this is a Human Rights discussion, not drinking discussion, and there is NO national drinking age, it is a state regulation.

[ JOSHUA/BLACKFOOTHIGHSCHOOL-Jake/BlackfootHighSchool - 397 - 10:42:26 ]
Secretary Riley- If you were comming to our class, we would tell you the following about human rights and education: we would tell you how we feel the government is doing a good job about keeping them in order. We feel that they are equal and that we are all of the same creator and noboby is better than another. Our education is growing frantically, I feel that I have learned twice the amount of information I knew before the beginning of the new school year. We need an even stronger knowledge of the world for when we become adults, because the world is expanding so greatly that we will need a college degree to flip burgers.

[ Willie/BlackfootHighSchool-Joan/BlackfootHighSchool - 398 - 10:42:52 ]
Secretary Riley- If you would come to our classroom we would tell you the following about human rights: We feel that improvement in the justice system has been well worth the time and continual improvements would be suggested. We feel there is a lot of room for improvement in the education of our country. It should be more thoroghly enforced. Put kids that don't really want to be there in a place with everyone else that doesn't want to be there. Let the kids that want to learn, learn

[ Elizabeth-Traci/WashingtonInt.School - 399 - 10:42:54 ]
Secretary Riley, do you think that all children are getting equal education around the nation?

[ Jake/BlackfootHighSchool-Jake/BlackfootHighSchool - 400 - 10:42:56 ]
Secretary Riley- i think that at our next oppurtunity to do this we should do an international chat so we can see how other countries feel about the issue

[ Megan-Traci/WashingtonInt.School - 401 - 10:42:58 ]
Riely- Do you think that all children in the United States are getting an education?

[ JohnMichael-Mrs.Hanley/MainlandHighSchool - 0 - 10:43:01 ]
If you came to our classroom, we would say that human rights are alive and well, and getting better slowly. Human rights are like the nevironment, we must take care of them.

[ Jeff-Helen/RisingSunHigh - 402 - 10:43:03 ]
Secretary Riley, do you feel that all people are equal, and if so, in whAt way?

[ Joan/BlackfootHighSchool-Joan/BlackfootHighSchool - 403 - 10:43:11 ]
I agree with you, Secretary Riley, that American ideals should be applied to other countries around the world concerning human rights.

[ Frances-Helen/RisingSunHigh - 404 - 10:43:15 ]
We are incrediby fortunate to be given the opportunity to live in a country where education is granted to us. However, what of the ones in other countries that don't have the right of a formal education?

[ ThedaHohenbary-Traci/WashingtonInt.School - 405 - 10:43:21 ]
I would like the world to be more cleaner. Also for more people to recycle.

[ Mike/Andrew-Cheryl/MiramonteHighSchool - 406 - 10:43:25 ]
bookbanning is a human rights violation in our classroom.

[ SecretaryRiley - 407 - 10:43:27 ]

do you think every body gets a edgyoucation

[ Kari-Gery/OlympiaHighSchool - 409 - 10:43:38 ]
Legalizing single sex public schools would be a step toward ending discrimination in schools.

[ MikePat-Cheryl/MiramonteHighSchool - 410 - 10:43:44 ]
I would have to disagree with your statement that Human rights are American values which I would like to see in all countries I don't agree with that statement because we believe that you should not push anerican values into other countries if I am mistaken in intupreting your statement please clarify

[ Jake/BlackfootHighSchool-Jake/BlackfootHighSchool - 411 - 10:43:57 ]
John Michael you have got some amazing ideas

[ Jeff-Helen/RisingSunHigh - 412 - 10:44:00 ]
Secretary Riley, do you feel that all people are equal, and if so, in whAt way?

[ Leia-Patricia/NorthSideMiddleSchool - 414 - 10:44:17 ]
If there is relgion freedom of that then why can't we have it in schools it would just help us out in the long run

[ Helen/RisingSunHigh - 415 - 10:45:38 ]
The whole topic of human rights is based upon the freedoms that each individual finds of importance. It is up to the individual to reform their government so that they have these freedoms. It is not a responsibility of the U.S. or the U.N. to interceed on the behalf of these individuals, violating the sovereignty of these nations to give these individuals rights we deem worthy.

[ Traci/WashingtonInt.School - 416 - 10:46:14 ]
Thanks for your information Adam
