February 2nd 1999 I got up at 6 in the morning today. We went and had breakfast at a restaurant. It was better than the normal place we have been going to. The food just seemed fresher. We went to the site and started our day. For me it was a little slow. The Network is still not working so I made some calls to see what was happening. Apparently they had some problems at Ames in the building where the other scientists are. Hopefully they will resolve these problems before Friday. Since robot wasn't doing anything I wrote some E-mail and went back to my motel to send them off and see if I had gotten any mail. It seems that I was sending the pictures in the wrong format so I found out what I was doing wrong and I will be sending them in a better format for the web-master to put on the web page. After that I went back to the site and Robot was still in the same place as before. Sergey and Linda took off for a bike ride, so I decided to go exploring my self in the mountains with my 4X4. The day before I took a bike ride into the mountains and I wanted to explore that area a little bit more. So I tried to get there and after about a half an hour I finally found the way. I found an old mine, and some cool looking rocks. I brought the rocks back to Edmond and he told me what they were. I then decided to get some video. I had a walkie-talkie, so I figured out a way to record the transmissions while video taping what they were talking about on the rover. There should be a video of the Rover's arm and Sergey, Hans, and Cesar are talking. They were trying to get it to do certain programs. I hope you people out there find it interesting. When I came home to my motel I sent the E-mail with the videos. Not much else happened after that. It got dark and so I did a few things and went back to my motel. I sent a bunch of email and when I was almost done the gang showed up and said they were going to Denny's I finished up and went with them to dinner. I had some good conversations with Hans and Edmond about the planets. Mostly Mars and the things that NASA is doing to prepare for certain events that they are planning. Edmond also talked about the importance of Geology in the study of where life comes from and how it got there. It was all very interesting. After our meal we were all very tired and we all went to bed. That is all for toady. Tune in for tomorrow's events soon!! Seth. |
