February 15th 1999

Today I had to get up extra early at about 6:30 in the morning to go help Cesar and the rest to take the Rover out to the Landing site. They were having problems with the pan tilt head, so they were working on it for a while. I decided to go back and rest a little and wake Jamie up so she would be ready to go out to the site when they called and told us to help them move the Rover. They eventually called and went and picked up Jamie at her motel and we stopped at a convenient store for some snacks. We got out to the site and helped them take the Rover to its testing grounds. I took more pictures and Jamie took some video footage of the team working. Jamie also helped me with some pictures. Today is Presidents day so not many people are back at Ames today.

Only the real diehards are working today. When your out in the desert in this type of testing process it is necessary for the testers to make the most out of their time out here. For most of the day the rover was tested on a number of differ ent areas. The arm, the pan tilt head, the cameras, and the spectrometer. It also did various moving scenarios. Not very new to me, but to the people out there, it must be interesting. Today was a pretty normal 8-hour workday.

The ASRO team arrived today but I didn't get a chance to talk with them, for they were here and then gone again. Linda was back again today. Hans is expected to come back tomorrow. Alan Federman will be joining me here tomorrow night. This is all for today.
