2/9/99

One of the wonderful things about sleeping in a motel seated next to highway 15 is the continuous sound of trucks and cars all through the night. It roars at the same level as the ocean, so how come it doesn’t rock me to sleep? I worked until 3:30 AM last night on the internet. My project has me managing a lot of big projects these days and being away from the office is always a little dangerous.

I came to some bad news last night. One of my projects in the LA area is in critical condition and we aren’t able to deploy crews at this time. So I am going to visit the site and see what I can do. We are hosting the Western Regional Robotics Competition for the FIRST corporation. We have 27 teams coming to compete. Most of them are rookies. It is critical that they all come to compete. So I will be going to East LA later today to work on a different kind of robot.

Before leaving to LA I will return to the Desert Camp. For now I am cleaning up E-mail that I couldn’t finish last night. I have a dial up account that connects at 28Kbps. It is a very good modem and works well. This trip was too short, but the fondest memories I will carry home will be the moments working on my computer in the shade with the warm desert wind blowing . A wind that is literally soothing to the soul.
