Tasks: Photogeological analysis of selected regions of
Arizona (McDowell Mountains, Parker Dune Field, and Lower Gila and Salt
Rivers) and Pinacates Volcanic Region of Mexico. These studies included
field investigations to verify ground truth, collect samples, and confirm
aerial photographic observations of various landforms such as alluvial
fans, barchan dune fields, volcanic constructs and lava flows, and fluvial
geomorphic assemblages. Conducted research and analysis of ancient
sedimentary deposits on Mars, to be used for selection of future landing
sites to satisfy geological and exobiological science issues. The NASA
Planetary Geology research involves extensive use and analysis of orbital
imagery data sets of Mars. Conducted geological field work in Antarctica
as a member of the first joint NASA-Russian Science Expedition to the
Bunger Hills Oasis. Extensive aerial photographic research was conducted
to plan sample traverses and assess regional geology of this region of
Eastern Antarctica. During this expedition I was also a member of the
SCUBA Diving Team. This involved underwater exploration and sampling of
the ice-covered lakes in this area of Antarctica. Assisted in completion
of the Mars Landing Site Catalog. Co-Author of 1:15,000,000 scale
geologic map of Callisto, a Jovian satellite, and conducted global crater
density calculations of geologic units for this moon. This map is in
press for the U.S.G.S.

Tasks: Co-Investigator with Dave Scott conducting research
on: Martian Lacustrine Basins and Reassessment of Fluvial History.
Conducted research on Martian drainage morphology and basin analysis.
Assisted Scott and Tanaka on 1:5,000,000 scale geologic map of the Elysium
Region of Mars. Worked with Scott on photogeological analysis of Viking
Orbiter images of Northern plains features (polygonal terrain, whorls,
mottled terrain, dunes, etc.), southern cratered highlands and valley
networks on Mars. Conducted a study on possible Martian pingos in
association with paleolake basins. Computer assisted image searches were
utilized for this aspect of the investigation. Analyzed Landsat imagery
of Antarctica Dry Valleys and Utah's Lake Bonneville Region. This
research was conducted to assess these regions viability as candidate
analog field sites for Martian geomorphic process studies. Worked with
Dr. Masursky on Martian nomenclature study; proposed and had approved by
the IAU, nomenclature for channels and craters on Mars.
1987 Organization: SRS Technologies (NASA Contractor) Position: Astrogeologist       Tasks: Conducted research and analysis for NASA Marshall Space Flight Center, Manned Mars Mission Study. Duties ranged from evaluating potential landing sites, Martian dust storm analysis, surface science requirements, mission operations and planning integration. This work also involved delivery of oral presentations to NASA managers and contractors on a regular basis.
