Bio - Michael Kobrick,
SRTM Team Member

Dr. Michael Kobrick is the SRTM Project Scientist. As such, he has the responsibility of ensuring the final SRTM map product meets the required specifications. He was instrumental in developing the concept for the SRTM mission, most notably the idea of using a mast to acquire radar interferometry data during a single pass of the shuttle.

Mike earned a B.S. in Physics from the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, the M.S. in Astronomy from the University of Illinois, and an M.S. and Ph.D. in Planetary and Space Science from UCLA. He has extensive experience in the fields of photogrammetry and radargrammetry and in using these techniques for topographic mapping.

When Mike is not working, he enjoys cross-country running including ultra-marathons, and playing blues piano. He is a member of a local running club where he is affectionately known as "Dr. Mikey".
