Bio - Michael Kobrick,
SRTM Team Member
Dr. Michael Kobrick is the SRTM Project Scientist. As such, he has
the responsibility of ensuring the final SRTM map product meets the required
specifications. He was instrumental in developing the concept for the SRTM
mission, most notably the idea of using a mast to acquire radar interferometry
data during a single pass of the shuttle.
Mike earned a B.S. in Physics from the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute,
the M.S. in Astronomy from the University of Illinois, and an M.S. and
Ph.D. in Planetary and Space Science from UCLA. He has extensive experience
in the fields of photogrammetry and radargrammetry and in using these
techniques for topographic mapping.
When Mike is not working, he enjoys cross-country running including
ultra-marathons, and playing blues piano. He is a member of a local running
club where he is affectionately known as "Dr. Mikey".
