Live From Mars ended in December 1997. Please see Mars Team Online for a more recent project about Mars.

Internet coverage of LFM's 3rd and 4th live broadcasts

On July 6 from 2-4 p.m. Eastern, the third Live From Mars television program was broadcast over PBS and NASA-TV. On July 9 from 2-4 p.m. Eastern, the fourth Live From Mars television program was broadcast over PBS. Due to an error by NASA, it was not broadcast over NASA-TV.

You may have had a hard time getting the "real-TV" programming. Many local PBS stations elect not to distribute this programming live (call them to complain!). People without satellite dishes might not have access to NASA-TV and people outside of the United States aren't covered.

Below are several options for tuning into the programming over the Internet.

Internet service for July 6/9 "Touchdown"

During the program:

  • Live video was available from Classroom of the Future.

  • Sound from the broadcasts was shared live over the Internet using Real Audio. An archive of the show is available. Before starting, you'll need to first get the Real Audio player.

Real Audio of Live From Mars.

EMERGENCY ONLY - If for some reason NASA TV preempts Pathfinder coverage try here.

  • The ability to ask questions via email to the folks on TV was available during the broadcast only. The email address to use for this service was onair-lfm@quest.arc.nasa.gov

  • A CU-SeeMe version of the broadcasts was also made available. Astronaut Tom Jones was online for the July 9 conference to answer questions. Here is a list of additional NASA TV CuSeeMe reflectors (all are on Channel 3):
    1. zeus.arc.nasa.gov - 128.102.198.147
    2. quest.arc.nasa.gov - 198.123.15.250
    3. topweb.arc.nasa.gov -128.102.101.82
    4. explorer.arc.nasa.gov - 128.102.68.10

  • Information about MBONE coverage was listed on the MBONE scheduling program (SDR). This service also assumed that NASA-TV coverage would not be preempted by breaking news.

  • Once-per-minute snapshots from the broadcast from NASA Select TV. This image was courtesy of NASA Kennedy Space Center. It was updated once per minute and showed a snapshot of the live broadcast.

After the program:

No services were planned for after the program.
