Live From Mars ended in December 1997. Please see Mars Team Online for a more recent project about Mars.

Internet coverage of LFM's second live broadcast

On April 24 from 1-2 p.m. Eastern, the second Live From Mars television program was broadcast over PBS and NASA-TV.

You may have had a hard time getting the "real-TV" programming. Many local PBS stations elect not to distribute this programming live (call them to complain!). People without satellite dishes might not have access to NASA-TV. And people outside of the United States aren't covered.

So we offered the options below for tuning into the programming over the Internet.

Internet service for April 24 "Cruising between the Planets"

During the program:

  • Sound from the broadcast was shared live over the Internet using Real Audio. An archive of Program 2 is now available. Before starting, you'll need to first get the Real Audio player
  • The ability to ask questions via email to the folks on TV was available only during the broadcast. Many people sent in live email questions and a bunch were read on air during the television broadcast.
  • CU-SeeMe has several existing reflectors that regularly broadcast NASA TV. Follow this link for a list of NASA-TV/CU-SeeMe reflectors.
  • Information about MBONE coverage was listed on the MBONE scheduling program (SDR). At times, around 30 people were tuned in via MBONE.
  • Once per minute we hoped to post a new Web snapshot from the broadcast. We said that it was unlikely to be available unless magic prevailed. There was no magic, so we'll try again next time.

After the program:

  • Last broadcast we hosted WebChat and CU-SeeMe parties for students to interact with each other. Our experience leads us to believe that continuing to offer these student forums would be unwise.
