QUESTION: What planet has the largest storm? ANSWER from Ed Colbert on May 11, 1996: By far the largest storm in the solar system is the humongous tornado in Jupiter's atmosphere. The "red spot" on Jupiter is what you can see of this storm and I believe it is as large in diameter as the Earth. You should be able to read about the storms on Jupiter in any astronomy textbook in your library. Also Venus has a thick atmosphere and is thought to have freqent storms. Mars has dust storms, but the atmosphere is pretty thin. Mars and Venus are even smaller than the earth and so are smaller than the STORMS on Jupiter. One of the amazing things about our Earth is that the temperature, air pressure and oxygen levels are just right for humans and that's not true anyplace else in our solar system. If the earth was 10% closer or 10% further away from the sun, the conditions would be much different and probably unfit for humans!
