Sunday, April 13, 1997 The last OFJ97 Update will be sent out early this week. The interactive portion of the project ended last Sunday - - hsowever, the website will be available indefinitely and we will even be posting a new activity in late-June. Everything that is currently available such as field journals, biographies, updates, etc. will still be available for your perusal. The Online from Jupiter 97 Project Team would like to thank all participants for your support of the project. ******************************************************************** Monday, March 31, 1997 The Imaging activity is now online and available for your use at http://quest.arc.nasa.gov/galileo/features/imaging.html Several new updates have been sent out since this page was last updated. Included are lots of new field journals and important project-related information. Check them out at http://quest.arc.nasa.gov/galileo/journals The third of three scheduled webchats will be held this Wednesday, April 2nd at 2PM EST. This chat will feature Dr. Paul Geissler and Jan Ludwinski. They will be available online for about an hour to answer questions about and discuss the Galileo Europa Mission. We've tentatively scheduled three webchats with Galileo experts over the next few weeks. Check out http://quest.arc.nasa.gov/galileo/webchat/galileo.html for more info. ******************************************************************** Sunday, February 23, 1997 The OFJ97 website is undergoing some major changes currently to provide you with the latest information and resources. The Featured Activities section has been updated with new activities for OFJ97. Some activities from the original OFJ project have been updated as well. Also, the Galileo Team section has been redesigned to provide information in a more convenient fashion. This section has also been updated for OFJ97 and includes some new people! The first OFJ97 Update was sent out and posted on the web on February 19. Another one will be sent out and posted on the web (http://quest.arc.nasa.gov/galileo/journals) tomorrow. ******************************************************************** Friday, February 7, 1997 The first set of probe data has been placed online at http://quest.arc.nasa.gov/galileo/features/data.html. This data can be used by teachers as part of a lesson on data analysis. ******************************************************************** Tuesday, February 4, 1997 The Press Release area is being updated once again. As new and exciting Press Releases relating to Galileo are issued, they will be reviewed and selected ones posted to our PR section at http://quest.arc.nasa.gov/galileo/About/press.html ******************************************************************** Wednesday, January 22, 1997 The Online from Jupiter 97 project will be starting in approximately one month. The website is currently being developed and as new resources are ready, they will be added to the OFJ97 website at http://quest.arc.nasa.gov/galileo ******************************************************************** Friday, May 10 A special opportunity is coming to get interactive with the women and men behind the Galileo Probe. Key players from the management, engineering and science teams will be available this coming May 15 (Wednesday) from 4:00-9:00PM Pacific time. The discussion will take place at a special WebChat area made just for this purpose. Details will be made available later today - The Webchat discussion area will be staffed after 1pm PST today. ******************************************************************** Tuesday, December 19 -Much new info added on "Resources for Learning" page. -New link "Galileo's ability to withstand the conditions of space" added in the "About Galileo/ About the Spacecraft" section. -Three new bios have been added to the people section: Rosaly M. Lopez-Gautier, Shadan Ardalan, and Karen Buxbaum. ******************************************************************** Monday, December 18 Due to the Federal Government shutdown, the press conference scheduled for Tuesday, December 19th has been postponed. We will announce the new date as soon as it becomes known. ******************************************************************** Thursday, December 14 The ability to answer questions via Email (question-jup@quest) has been restored. Thanks for your patience during the outage. ******************************************************************** Tuesday, December 12 The Field Journals written by the people of Galileo are now sorted by author and can be found in the section called "People". ******************************************************************** Monday, December 11 Transmission of data collected from Galileos now-vaporized companion probe will begin Sunday at 4:17 a.m. PST and continue with playbacks from Galileos onboard computer memory to the antennas of NASAs global Deep Space Network through December 13. Results of quick-look analysis of the science data received next week will be announced at a press briefing scheduled for December 19 at 10 a.m. PST at NASAs Ames Research Center, Mountain View, CA. In addition to the 40 minutes of probe data stored in Galileos computer memory, the entire set of probe data, up to 75 minutes worth, was recorded on Galileos tape recorder. That information will be played back to Earth beginning in February following multiple returns of all the data stored in Galileos computer memory. ******************************************************************** Friday, December 8 A great discussion has blossomed at times in the WebChat area. Not much new material will be forthcoming until our leaders can agree to compromise. Another installment in ProbeSquash is available. It describes the testing which flight hardware like spacecraft must endure. Please look in the Featured Activites section for ProbeSquash. ******************************************************************** Monday, November 13 Photos have been added to the top level photo gallery. A teacher discussion group called discuss-jup has been established in the Teacher's Lounge. This group can be accesssed using Email or the Web. A digest version which compiles all of the day's postings into one message is also available. ******************************************************************** Friday, November 10 The MNEMONIC Game is now available for action. Please find it in the Featured Activities section. The People section has been upgraded with new entries from Glenn Orton, Leo Cheng, Marcia Segura, Stephen Licata and Byron Yetter. In addition, job titles have been added for everybody. ******************************************************************** Thursday, November 9 A new teacher registration area has been created in the teacher lounge. This will provide a mechanism for like minded teachers to find one another. ******************************************************************** Friday, November 3 ProbeSquash is now available in the Featured Activites section. This activity involves estimating the exact time that the Probe will stop operating. A series of clues provided over time will allow insight into the factors which may eventaully cause the Probe to fail. ******************************************************************** Tuesday, October 31 Many of the people of Galileo have prepared biographical sketches. These brief reports may help students relate to the project at a human level. ******************************************************************** Wednesday, October 25 Several new curriculum supplements are now available in the Resources for Learning section
