Probe Data Set

This data shows the relationship between wind velocity and time, pressure and altitude:

Time is in seconds and is elapsed after probe entry (defined as 450 km above 1 bar)
Pressure is in bars
Altitude is in kilometers and is probe altitude relative to 1 bar level
Velocity is velocity of zonal (west to east) wind

You may wish to have students import this data into a spreadsheet and/or data analysis program, analyze and interpret it. Some questions you may wish to pose are:

1. What is the relationship between wind and the other factors?

2. Do some data-pairs show a pattern? Are there some pairs that don't show a pattern?

3. Using this data, what hypotheses can you come up with to explain the numbers?

4. What other data might be helpful in testing out your hypotheses?
