QUESTION: I heard you had found new moons or something. Could you explain what you have discovered? ANSWER from Ken Klaasen on January 10, 1996: As you may know, we have not yet returned any pictures from Jupiter, so we have not discovered any new moons of Jupiter (yet). However, on our way to Jupiter, we flew close to the asteroid Ida in August, 1993. There we did discover a small natural satellite orbiting the asteroid. We named this moon Dactyl. It is the first moon of an asteroid ever discovered Dactyl is small (about 1.5 km across) and rocky. It orbits about 85 km away from Ida.
