QUESTION: If you had a chance to do it again, what would you do differently to be able to gather more information? ANSWER from Robert Mitchell on January 31, 1996: This is a very interesting question, partly because the answer depends somewhat on whether we were doing it again with '90s capability, or late 70's capabilities, like we did this time. Probably the only thing we would design differently with 90's capabilities is the main onboard computer. It would be very nice to have more memory, which would allow us to return more data. Two of our designs didn't work very well with hindsight. One is the big antenna to have been used for data return, and the other is the tape recorder intended for data storage. We would look very carefully at these two things to see what could be done better if we were doing it again. The science instruments that we have are excellent, and we probably would do little if anything to change them or add to them.
