August 25 , 1998 Dear Journal, Today I woke up this morning at ten O'clock. Like every morning, I went up to the flying bridge and set up the portable. We are going to do an interview with Michelle Hope. She is one of the scientists that will be calculating where the ships are or will be. Before we set up the portable we tried to use the ships INMRSAT but for some reason or another it could get a good satellite lock. When we use the portable it worked great. About an hour later Mark came up to the flying bridge so we could see what there were monitoring. I was very excited at to be able to see the bottom of the ocean live from a monitor. Damien and I took turns watching the portable so one of us could go down there. When it was my turn I went down there and before I got there, I saw a huge crowed of people around this little monitor. I saw a lot of starfish. I was very amazed with the technology we were using. Five minutes later I went back up to the flying bridge to man the portable station with Damien. We tore down around four O'clock just in time for dinner. We were asked to set up the network again because one of the ROV scientists wanted to test if he was able to type in the command to the ROV while he was inside the ship. At six-thirty I went up to the bridge with Damien to man the portable station once again. That went well we had a good link and the test seemed to have gone well. We tore down and for the rest of my night I wrote email.
