On Thursday we arrived in Kodiak around 6 in the evening. We actually were in the port of Kodiak about two hours earlier but it takes a long time for the ship to ease its way in the port. Also there are a lot of little procedures that the Coast Guard has with making sure everything works out fine; from getting the boat anchored right, to making sure the fenders are placed right, so the ship doesn't rub against the huge wooden logs of the port.

Some Coasties (Coast Guard Personnel), and our NASA team went into the down town area of Kodiak. I must say this is the smallest down town I've ever seen in my entire life. The whole down town area was a little bigger than one block by one block. But sure enough on this Island they had their own McDonalds. We ended up eating dinner at a more formal place called Henry's. It was very good food but really expensive for one chicken sandwich. Everyone in the town was very different from the people I'm used to seeing. After the great dinner Jamie, Seth, some Coasties, and myself went around the town just exploring.
