July 23, 1998

Today is Thursday the 23rd of August. There is less than 24 hours left before we leave the dock and go out to the sea. I woke up around 6 this morning to have breakfast with the rest of the coast guard. Right after that I got right to work and worked on the ship's router problems we had the previous day. The only thing was that we had to get all of the problems solved before departing. Our portable INMARSAT was working before the trip so I just tested it out to make sure it'd work on the boat. I found a sufficient connection from the back of the boat. I made a test phone call and left a message on my mother's answering machine. I got it to work and then I set up a router to the Satellite. Mark and another technician, Dave Swager, solved the technical problems for the ship's Internet system and just a little while ago we got both INMARSAT's (The ships and our portable INMARSAT) working. Everything looks good and I'm really excited about the trip. The boat is very huge, and it is easy to get lost in the many rooms, floors, and hallways.

I tested the NT workstation and got it working with Real Publisher and I transmitted it with real audio and video. The connections are working thanks to Dave and Mark. Jamie and Seth have also done a great job with getting everything to work. At around 7 or so we are planning to go to the Space Needle since tonight is our last night before leaving Seattle. I'm looking forward to it.
