SHIP'S POSITION: Palmer Station/LTER Nearshore grid stations B-J
FUEL ON BOARD (@ 0800): 489 M3
REMARKS: The Polar Duke departed Palmer Station today at 0800 LT. The three day inport was marked by cargo and PAX transfer and the staging of the vessel for LTER. Considerable effort from station personnel, grantees, Rieber crew and ASA staff made this process go smoothly.
This first day of operations includes sampling along the nearshore grid (stations B-J), performing shallow BOPS casts and towing the Bioacoustics fish. The LFA crew is aboard filming the science program and will return to Palmer this evening.

SHIP'S POSITION: 500 LTER grid, heading offshore
FUEL ON BOARD (@ 0800): 483 M3
REMARKS: The Polar Duke is performing routine sampling along the 500 grid that includes BOPS casts (Bio-optical Profiling System), XBT's (Expendable Bathythermographs), Bioacoustic profiling for detection of krill swarms and 1 meter and 2 meter net tows. Underway data analysis is taking place simultaneously.

FUEL ON BOARD (@ 0800): 473 M3
REMARKS: A CTD cast (Conductivity, Temperature and Depth profile) was conducted for S-046 last evening, along with 1M and 2M net trawls. By early morning conditions were too rough for a second CTD cast. The vessel began transit to the offshore edge of the 550 line which is a continuous alongtrack transect where a Bioacoustics profile was to be performed. Continued increase in winds and sea state have necessitated cancelling all over-the-side operations. The Duke will remain hove-to at the beginning of this line to await abating weather.
